Having lunch on the table may seem simple, but for many families in our community, it’s not guaranteed.

Kris works at our local Des Moines Area Food Bank and is on the front lines helping fight hunger every day. Through hard work, care, and community support, lives are being changed right here in Des Moines.

Congratulations to Amara Drazkowski for being selected as a recipient of the Des Moines Legacy Foundation’s Dollars for Scholars scholarship!

Amara is an outstanding student at Maritime High School who has already demonstrated an incredible commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and community service. Through Running Start at Highline College, her work as Miss Olympic’s Teen, and her advocacy efforts to raise awareness about endometriosis legislation, she has shown maturity, compassion, and dedication well beyond her years.

We are especially inspired by her goal of pursuing a career in pediatric nursing, motivated by her own experiences and a genuine desire to help others. Amara represents the very best of our community, and I have no doubt she has a bright future ahead of her.

Congratulations again, Amara - we are all so proud of you!
