Today, we share both gratitude and excitement as CFUM enters a new chapter.

After years of dedicated service and leadership, Andy Bales will retire as Executive Director of Children and Family Urban Movement. Since joining CFUM in 2023, Andy has helped strengthen our organization, expand programs, secure new funding opportunities, and most importantly, build meaningful relationships with the children and families we serve.

As we thank Andy for his commitment to our mission, we are excited to welcome A.J. Salinas as CFUM's next Executive Director. Having served as Assistant Executive Director since 2025, A.J. brings passion, experience, and a deep understanding of our community. Through his leadership, CFUM will continue creating opportunities for children, youth, and families to thrive.

While leadership may change, our mission remains the same: supporting the potential of children, youth, and families through educational success, healthy living, and community engagement. Please join us in thanking Andy for his incredible service and congratulating A.J. as he steps into this new role!

Community in action! 💙

A huge thank you to the Iowa Barnstormers for helping us pack, clean, and prepare for our move to Samuelson Elementary ahead of Awesome Summer Days. Their teamwork and willingness to serve made a big impact and helped us accomplish so much in just a few hours. We’re so grateful for community partners who show up and help make great things happen for local youth. Thank you, Barnstormers!

What do kids love most about CFUM?
The fun? Absolutely. The games, water fights, and exciting summer adventures? Of course. But if you listen closely, you’ll hear something even more meaningful: the people. The friendships, and the staff who show up every day to encourage, support, and believe in them!

As we get ready for another Awesome Summer Days, we’re reminded that CFUM is about more than activities it’s about creating a place where kids feel connected, cared for, and excited to come back. & none of it happens without our community. Every number in this campaign represents real children, families, and opportunities! 💜

As CFUM prepares for relocation, we are facing new expenses that directly impact the programs and opportunities we provide for youth this summer. From meals and transportation to supplies and moving costs.

Because of supporters like YOU, over 200 youth will continue to have access to safe spaces, enrichment opportunities, and community this summer.

Every donation big or small helps us continue doing whatever it takes for children and families in our community.

A huge thank you to and Kenny for the incredible SEL programming they brought to both our CFUM elementary sites at Madison & Moulton this year! Through interactive activities, engaging conversations, and FUN lessons, students were able to learn important social-emotional skills in ways that truly connected with them.

Partnerships like CFUM + Do The Math 24/7 help make afterschool programming meaningful, impactful, and accessible for so many kids in our community and it’s all made possible through donations and community support.

What an unforgettable FIRST year at Madison Elementary School 💙✨

This year, we proudly served over 80 students through free after-school programming filled with STEM projects, cooking, reading puppets, dance parties, snow cones, wings, and so many memories! Students even created portraits of their future selves as they learned and grew together all session long.

Huge thank you to our staff, families, vendors, and community partners and special shoutout to Buffalo Wild Wings South Side for donating wings for our students! We are so grateful for everyone who made this year at Madison so impactful and unforgettable 💫
