This is my first campaign for public office; however, my
commitment to our city began over three years ago as a mayoral
appointment to the Des Moines Senior Services Advisory
Committee. By way of background, I have lived in Washington
State for the past eight years, including six years in the
Woodmont/Saltwater Park neighborhood of Des Moines. My husband and I previously lived in
Northern Californ
ia and have two adult children who reside there. I am running for City Council to further improve the quality of life for the residents of Des
Moines and build upon the solid foundation and financial stability of our city government
established by many of the current councilmembers. Not only would I bring the necessary
experience, skill sets, and understanding of the community to the council, I would also provide a
much needed voice for the south end of Des Moines. My experience includes working in both
the public and private sectors for over 31 years. During that time, I served in leadership roles
responsible for overseeing large program budgets and staff, while also working directly with
members of the community, advocacy groups, and political leaders. During my career, I have
served on various state and national governing boards of public transportation associations. As
a councilmember, I would bring a demonstrated ability to foster consensus building and
collaborative problem solving.
