June is Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month. PTSD is a mental health condition that's caused by an extremely stressful or terrifying event - either being part of it or witnessing it. PTSD can affect anyone who has experienced a serious accident, natural disaster, personal violence, or combat. It can occur in anyone of any ethnicity, nationality or culture, and at any age. About 6 out of every 100 people (or 6% of the U.S. population) will have PTSD at some point in their lives.

Across the country, all 55 Trauma Recovery Centers are providing specialized, trauma-informed care to survivors of violent crime who may be experiencing PTSD and other lasting impacts of trauma. Through evidence-based mental health treatment, case management, advocacy and support throughout the recovery process, TRCs help survivors heal, regain stability and rebuild their lives.

On this Memorial Day, we honor the brave individuals who gave everything in service to our country. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ•ŠοΈ

LWe also hold space for the invisible wounds many veterans carry such as PTSD, trauma, and the weight of experiences that words can't fully capture.

To our veterans and their families: your sacrifices are seen. Your healing matters. You are not alone.

Happy National Nurses Day to the caregivers who show up every single day with compassion, courage, and heart. πŸ©ΊπŸ’™

Nurses are often on the front lines of trauma β€” witnessing, holding space for, and helping others heal. Today, we honor YOU and remind you: your own wellbeing matters too.

To every nurse in Central Iowa and beyond, thank you. You are seen. You are appreciated. You are valued. 🌸
