Still finding the words to sum up how I feel about being last night’s Preliminary On Stage Question recipient! It was an honor to speak about the work I’ve done to promote insulin affordability while representing the T1D community. Getting recognized for the cause I’ve been passionate about since my diagnosis 12 years ago is the greatest blessing, and I hope to continue making my fellow T1Ds proud 💙

I couldn’t have done this without my impeccable board, sister queens, and the massive amount of supporters that cheered me on last night & throughout the entirety of this year. As we head into Finals, I’m feeling so at peace knowing I showed exactly who Alysa is and why she is the next Miss Iowa 👑

When you and your Rising Star accidentally get each other the same gift 🥹

I am SO thankful I get to spend this week with Harper! She is spunky, talented, and so sweet. I loved having some time with her before rehearsals tonight!

All checked-in and ready for the experience of a lifetime. Excited to make Polk County proud!

Before the flood of photos from Miss Iowa week ensue (I’m sure you’ll be tired of my posting) I wanted to take time to reflect on my “Why.”

I’m going into this week with a full heart knowing that I’m doing it for 10 year old Alysa who wore her mom down after constant begging to let me compete and was surprised to win her first title 13 years ago.

I’m doing it for 11 year old Alysa whose life fractured upon diagnosis, but was able to survive through the service and support this program provided.

And I’m doing it for people like Avery and the T1D community, who needed to see a diabetic who has found success despite the obstacles.

This title is so much more than a crown and sash, and I’m so excited to show the impact I’ll continue to have. Let’s do this!

Thank you to the Banting House for sharing my letter to the late Dr. Banting! I had the pleasure of touring the birthplace of insulin over spring break and was moved to tears as I wrote this letter. What a beautiful reminder as I head into Miss Iowa week of the tireless work I’ve done and the impact I’ve had across the globe. Thank you Dr. Banting 💙

Day 2 of and the theme is . "Maintaining a familiarity with the latest technological advancements is crucial for museum workers." We're slowly getting there. In the meantime, check out this online exhbition: https://bantinghousenhs.ca/exhibits-and-events/dear-dr-banting/

Contestant #8 reporting for duty 🫡

It’s officially the week of Miss Iowa!! I can’t believe in 3 short days I’ll be checking in for the experience of a lifetime.

Closing out a busy, hot, and heartwarming day with more music and more teen time 🤍

Thank you Ella for inviting me to sing the anthem at the Belmont Mile races at Augustana College! Spending time with her always fills my cup, especially when we get to serve our home communities together!

My first day of summer break was well spent with my favorite Rising Stars at the annual Theo Wolf Foundation walk!

I was so happy to see Li’l and Junior Miss Iowa, who happen to be my Rising Stars! Kenzie was my Rising Star for many years and we celebrated our last year together in 2022. While it’s bittersweet to see her age out and grow up, I’m thrilled to have Harper with me at Miss Iowa this year! Today, I got to ride along with her in the golf cart to kick off the race, play a few games, and was honored to sing the National Anthem.

The Theo Wolf Foundation promotes safe sleep education for infants and has already provided more than 400 safe sleep kits to families around the country. While we celebrated Theo’s heavenly birthday today, we all came together to celebrate and remember how important this cause is.

Miss Goethe is saying peace out to the 2022-2023 school year! ✌🏼

It’s crazy to think my first year of teaching is already over. This school year has been far from easy, but I’m grateful for every experience I had that helped me become a better educator. I learned right alongside my students and grew more than I ever thought I could as a person and teacher. Despite the challenges, this work is so rewarding, and I look forward to making music with my middle schoolers again soon!

But for now, I am SO excited to get back to the Miss Iowa stage in less than a week to share all of the fun and wild stories from my year in the classroom (I have plenty) and show how Miss Goethe is ready to be Miss Iowa!
