Thank you, Waterland Community!
"At tonight's City Council meeting, the Des Moines City Council approved proclamations recognizing June as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month and June 19 as Juneteenth.
Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions, diversity, and resilience of LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities, while reaffirming our commitment to fostering a community where everyone is treated with dignity, respect, and belonging.
Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and honors the strength, perseverance, and achievements of Black Americans. It serves as a reminder of our nation's continued journey toward freedom, equality, and justice for all.
The City of Des Moines values the unique perspectives and experiences that strengthen our community and remains committed to creating a welcoming environment where everyone who lives, works, and visits here feels seen, respected, and valued."
