“We’re not a family—we’re a sports team.” 🏆

That statement may sound counterintuitive, especially for leaders who care deeply about their people. But in Episode 9 of the Moving Forward Podcast, Melissa Russell, President of charity: water, explains why this distinction can help create a healthier organizational culture.

Great teams practice together, have fun together, and form deep friendships while doing hard things. They also remain clear about roles, accountability, and what the mission requires—even when someone needs to change positions or transition off the team.

Calling an organization a team doesn’t make it less caring. It creates space for care and accountability to exist together.

We’ve shared a lot this week about our new partnership with The Chosen and the Come and See Foundation—but before we head into the long weekend, we wanted to leave you with one more reflection. ✨

Wendi Lord, PhD, shared how her team is doing incredibly complex work to help bring The Chosen to people around the world in their own heart language.

But in the middle of all the strategy, technology, translation, and innovation, Wendi shared this:

“Prayer is the strategy of our team. Whenever we get together and pray, we see miracle after miracle.” 🙏

What a reminder.

So often, prayer can become the thing we turn to after we’ve exhausted every other option. But what if it were woven into the way we lead from the very beginning?

Before the decision.
Before the meeting.
Before the next big step. 💜
