Meet the vice-chair of Communities Succeed, Erika Abusharkh

In 2002, as a volunteer with Community of Christ's WorldService Corps in Bolivia, Erika worked with the co-founder of Communities Succeed, Steve Bootman. After a couple of years living in Cochabamba and Sacaba, Bolivia, Erika moved back to the States but kept in contact with her friends in South America. In 2014, Steve invited Erika to join Communities Succeed as a board member.

Q: "How has being part of Communities Succeed impacted your life?"
A: "Through our efforts, we have raised money and awareness around many issues that are similar no matter where we find ourselves in the world—we want similar things for ourselves and others, such as education for children, clean water, and safety from war. For me to have the opportunity to make a small impact in rural parts of Bolivia gives me space to move beyond my younger years and into a fuller realization of participatory ministry, where communities are succeeding because of local and global support."
