Hello everyone,

It gives me immense pleasure to share a historic milestone for Sankara Nethralaya MESU in Ettayapuram, Tamil Nadu. We are profoundly grateful to our mega donors, Smt. Lakshmi Shankar and Sri Shankar Subramonian, for their generous contribution of USD 400,000 to sponsor the CapEx for the 5th MESU and 4 eye camps . This remarkable support marks a significant achievement in the journey of Sankara Nethralaya, furthering our mission to deliver quality eye care to underserved communities.

As many of you know, MESU was envisioned by the late Padma Bhushan Dr. S.S. Badrinath to serve poor and visually impaired patients in rural villages across India. Our MESU journey began with the first unit in Chennai in 2011, followed by the second in Jharkhand in 2016, supported by the late Padma Vibhushan Ratan Tata, the third in Hyderabad in February 2024 with SNUSA support, the fourth in Puttaparthi in March 2025, and now the fifth in Ettayapuram in December 2025, where we successfully completed the first MESU eye camp. This unit will serve southern Tamil Nadu and the entire Kerala state, expanding our reach and impact to more communities in need.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to SNUSA Founder and President Emeritus Acharyaji, Sankara Nethralaya President Dr. Girish Rao, Chairman Dr. Surendran, and General Manager Sri Suresh Kumar for their unwavering support in realizing the 5th MESU. While Sri Shankar Subramonian could not attend the Vahana Puja ceremony in Chennai, his office HR Manager, Sri Rajesh, represented him at the event. Please see the attached images highlighting the first camp and MESU buses.

Words cannot fully express our gratitude to Smt. Lakshmi Shankar and Sri Shankar Subramonian. Their generosity ensures that the five MESU locations continue to bring vision and hope to countless people in rural India, exemplifying the true spirit of community service, compassion, and empathy for the needy.

Congratulations and heartfelt thanks to Smt. Lakshmi Shankar and Sri Shankar Subramonian!
