Broadview Farm Conservation Work Day: Removing Oriental Bittersweet

Join us for an afternoon of hands-on conservation work at Broadview Farm Conservation Area! We'll be working to remove oriental bittersweet that has begun to encroach on the fields.
Oriental bittersweet is an invasive vine that can quickly spread and overwhelm native plants. Once established, it can climb and smother trees and shrubs and take over open areas. By removing the bittersweet while it is just starting to get established in the field, we have an opportunity to keep it from becoming a much larger problem.
This will be physical work involving pulling, cutting, and clearing vines in the long-grass portion of the field, off the trail. You can put in as much or as little effort as you'd like. Volunteers are welcome to stay for the full three hours or simply stop by and help for whatever time they have available.
What to bring:
Long sleeves and long pants
Gloves and a hat
Water
Insect repellent and sunscreen
Loppers and/or pruners, if you have them
Plenty of elbow grease!
We'll have some loppers available to share, but please plan to bring your own tools if you'd like to use them.
A few things to know: This work will take place in tall grass and off the trail, so volunteers should expect ticks and the possibility of poison ivy. This work is not recommended for children.
