While the Sanctuary in the 1769 Meetinghouse at First Parish was restored to match its last major renovation in 1884, it was also designed to support a variety of modern-day events and activities.
This week, Derry's Town Council held its 2027 Goals Planning meeting there, and Sanctuary systems worked in conjunction with Derry Community Access Media to smoothly run and livestream the meeting.
This town endorsement of the historic landmark and the preservation work completed so far concluded with a description of the Sanctuary preservation effort and a tour of the lower-level spaces that remain to be rehabilitated.
If you're interested in holding an event here, getting a guided tour for your group—or supporting the ongoing effort by volunteering or donating—contact the Friends of the Meetinghouse at First Parish at [email protected].

The New Hampshire Preservation Alliance Old House and Barn Expo this weekend provides an excellent immersion into the world of historic preservation.
Today I enjoyed educational sessions and caught up with a dozen experts and contractors who have helped with the 1769 Meetinghouse at First Parish in East Derry. You can even watch the crew from Preservation Timber Framing and Heartwood School construct a timber-framed building on the spot (and get periodic talks by expert and friend of the Meetinghouse Arron Sturgis along the way).
Learn more and register for Sunday:
