This past weekend, several ladies from the Ebonite Culture Unlimited Club, Inc had the privilege of attending a meaningful ceremony in DeRidder, Louisiana, where the DeRidder High School Field House was officially dedicated in memory of Coach Elton “Bull” Mango.
While he was widely known as a service member, professional athlete, coach, and educator, those titles alone cannot fully capture the depth of the legacy he leaves behind. The dedication of the facility stands as a lasting tribute to a man whose influence reached far beyond the roles he held.
Attendees had the opportunity to hear from former students, colleagues, family members, clergy, business owners, and city leaders, each sharing personal memories and experiences. Their stories painted a powerful picture of the profound impact Coach Mango had on countless lives and the enduring mark he left on the community.
Coach Mango’s legacy will continue to live on! Not only through the stories shared by those who knew him, but also through the generations of students and athletes who will pass through those doors for years to come. His name will remain a reminder of the character, leadership, and dedication that shaped so many.
It was truly an honor that his wife Jonnie Mango, one of the founders of the club and daughter Cheryl Mango were in attendance for this great honor! Special thanks to the following members that were in attendance:
President: Tranquil Ratliff Crosby
Vice President: Yolanda Veney Maxile
Financial Secretary: Nell Sanders
