We had a baby boy from birth until 20 months. Both of his parents were addicted to drugs and their older son was already in care. Baby was born severely addicted, but also with intensive medical disorders-he required surgery hours after birth, were told he would never walk, had a feeding tube, and requires daily injections along with like 12 meds. When I tell you something clicked in his parents and they got into gear. Dad immediately went into rehab for a few months. They never had a dirty drug test after his birth, they never missed a visitation, and they came to every medical appointment and learned how to care for him. He reunified 4 years ago and they eventually later gained custody back of their older son, too. Their child is now THRIVING. They own a home now, stayed together, work, and are THE BEST parents. I hardly trust anyone and I would trust them with my own children without any hesitation. They have their stuff together more than I do honestly. Thankfully they still allow me to be a part of his life & I see him regularly - we celebrate holidays together etc. It is the ideal story of what foster care is supposed to be like. I am so proud of his parents.
