Fort Polk Horses of Kisatchie

Pegasus Equine Guardian Association™ (PEGA) formed to unify efforts to preserve and protect the wild and free roaming herds of horses in Louisiana’s Kisatchie National Forest and Fort Polk. These unique herds of wild horses have been a part of Louisiana’s local culture since its early beginnings, and are considered Louisiana’s Heritage Horses. Tucked away in central

Louisiana are herds of wild horses whose presence can be traced back centuries. They are a vision that removes you from all attachment to the outside world.

We opened up the back portion today and let the wild ones drift into fresh grass, and you could feel the shift immediately. Sanctuary life is always a balance of ebb and flow… rain, drought, sun, growth. Managing that rhythm is what keeps a herd healthy. Grass isn’t just food…it’s foundation. It supports gut health, weight, movement, and overall well-being. It took us years to get to this point…where we can rotate, rest, and begin to truly manage sections of the sanctuary the way it needs. That didn’t happen overnight. It came from learning, rebuilding, and staying committed through every season. Days like today remind us why it matters. Little moments can mean big accomplishments 🌱 Forever grateful for the hard work that went into getting this section of our cross-fencing cleared and restrung. 💗💗💗🐎🐎🐎

It felt good to get back out and do a full check on everyone!! 🐎❤️🐎

I’ve been a little quieter lately, life has had me pulled in a different direction for a bit, but the horses haven’t missed a beat. They’ve been cared for, fed, watched over… just like always. And walking back through, seeing them come up, hearing the nickers, watching them settle in, it reminds me how strong this foundation really is.

That doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because of the people behind the scenes, the support, the consistency, even when I can’t physically be here as much as I’d like. There aren’t enough words to properly thank the person who’s been holding everything together while I’ve been away. When I couldn’t be here, you were. Every feeding, every check, every little detail that most people never see, you made sure it all got done, and done right. That kind of consistency, care, and commitment isn’t something you can teach… it comes from the heart. 💗💗💗

I’m getting back into our rhythm, one day at a time. But the horses haven’t missed a beat 🫶🐎And as always, I’m grateful for the horses, for the help, and for everyone who continues to stand behind what we do.

2025 had me up before sunrise feeding baby horses… buckets in hand, watching little lives fight and grow stronger every single day. Luna, Stormy, and Bandido are doing amazing!

2026 looks a little different but oddly similar. 🤣Now it’s two tiny baby girls in my arms, my twin granddaughters, needing that same patience, love, and around-the-clock care. It’s been a beautiful, busy season that’s kept me grounded in family life. And truthfully, it’s also meant I haven’t been as consistent here as I’d like. But we’re working on getting back to normal.

Whether it’s a foal finding its footing or a newborn discovering the world, it’s about showing up….every feeding, every late night, every moment in between. It’s about protecting what’s vulnerable and believing in what they can become.

At Pegasus, that’s always been our heart. The work doesn’t stop, it just grows. From baby horses to grand-babies, the mission remains the same: care, compassion, and commitment to the next generation.

Thank you for your patience, your support, and for standing with us through every season. 🤍

🎉✨ HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY, LUNA! ✨🎉

One year ago today, a tiny dark filly changed everything.

She was born into uncertainty… separated from her mama. I remember pulling up to that gate and seeing this precious baby and knowing in my gut we had to act.

Feeding every 2 hours.
Sleepless nights.
Prayers whispered in the dark.

And look at her now.

Strong.
Healthy.
Curious.
Full of personality.

Luna, you are proof that sometimes the hardest beginnings create the brightest lights. 🌙✨

From red heat lamps and bucket feeding milk replacer… to sunshine naps in the pasture… you have grown into such a beautiful representation of resilience.

To everyone who followed her journey, prayed for her, donated milk, feed, time, and love, this birthday belongs to you too. 🫶

Here’s to many more years of wild spirit, soft nickers, and that sweet Luna face greeting us at the gate.

Drop a 🎂🌙 in the comments to wish our girl a Happy Birthday!
