Lamb's Artillery Company will be at Monmouth Battlefield State Park this coming weekend (June 20-21, 2026) to particulate in the annual Battle of Monmouth Reenactment. Address of the park is 20 NJ-33 Bus, Manalapan, NJ 07796 for those of you who have never been to the park.

Be advised that due to the strength of the armies, Lamb's will be wearing their Royal Artillery regimentals and will be camping on the British side this year.

I do not have the technological skill to link the video from the New Jersey State Parks site that shows footage from last year's battle, featuring several members of Lamb's Artillery! But look it up!

See you there!

Some Bicentennial blasts. Photos from 1975/1976 notice the men at the front leaning away. Some crews still do this. It is NOT CORRECT. We learned and improved. Men on the crew stood up straight and looked to their field piece.

Some more artillery photos from the 5th NY FB page on last weekends event. Looks like a great time.

The response to our post on "It's not a cannonball" was amazing. So let's try this. My collection of heavy metal round things. Any of these "real"? Here's a clue, the big guy in the top left corner weights 24 pounds. – Frank C.

The photos I posted on May 28th of a Mortar/Howitzer Shell brought up some questions. Here is an image of the wooden fuses from a British Laboratory book from 1800. These wood plugs would be hollowed out and filled with a gunpowder mixture for a slow burn. The gunner would estimate the time of the flight of the bomb to the target and cut a notch that would allow the flame of the burning concoction to ignite the gunpowder inside the shell, bursting it into pieces, hopefully on the spot where it would do the most damage (airburst usually). It was an art turning into a science. Shrapnel was not invented yet. — Frank C.
