Heart for People gives children an education by linking their schools to organizations in America to eliminate corruption and create a personal relationship that crosses half the world.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sarah Namuli. Sarah Namuli was a beloved friend, sister, leader, singer, and champion of children’s education. We first met Sarah Namuli when she was in p7 in 2008. It was largely due to her leadership and the way she brought people together that Segawa’s school could grow to helping hundreds of other children in Uganda.

Sponsored by Linda Bohrer and the Shearman family through high school and college, Sarah became a talented seamstress and an intelligent teacher at the same school that raised her. She was a connector, who brought people together and celebrated life with her sense of humor, booming laugh, frequent hugs, and incredible singing voice. She made every day brighter and more joyful for everyone who was lucky enough to know her. She will be deeply missed by Segawa, the students and fellow graduates of Namayumba, the children in Nansana, and all of us in the U.S.

If you feel inclined to give in her honor, any donations will go towards her outstanding hospital bills and her funeral (at www.heartforpeople.org or Venmo: ). Any remaining balance will be given in her memory to further support Segawa’s school. Thank you to everyone who has been praying for her recovery this past week - Sarah was truly surrounded by love in Uganda and around the world.

The Heart for People club at Morris Knolls pulled together a wonderful coffeehouse showcasing talented young people to raise funds to start building Extreme Junior School in Nansana in partnership with Segawa.

Earlier this year, the students of Southern Boulevard Elementary School in Chatham, NJ raised money by reading books to build classrooms for the students of Kiboga Community Primary School. Thank you, SBS!

Today we visited perhaps the poorest of Heart for People’s schools in Kiboga. This school struggles desperately to pay their teachers because none of their children pay tuition. In the deep bush, people are farmers. There’s no money. We brought several graduates with us today, because next week they will be working on the floors of new classrooms. Emma and I walked over at the end of the afternoon and Segawa said, “We have decided to each take a child. Why not? We work. We can do it.” And you know what? Each graduate now has a little kid they’re responsible for. They’ll be paying tuition each term. I overheard one of them discussing uniforms and books with the head teacher. Sometimes development work feels overwhelming. And then sometimes, you see the legacy in action. Today was one of those days. The kids we sponsored through high school are now the ones sponsoring kids in need. 🇺🇬 @ Kiboga District

Sometimes, little kids this age (1-2) are terrified of white people. Poor Avram runs to Susan for comfort every time he sees Emma and Sarah! But Susan’s hugs are the best hugs, so all is well. ❤️

This is Baby Class, the youngest section of nursery school. Because they speak Luganda at home, this class is their first introduction to English. They do a lot of repeating and, as you can see, songs and dances. In this video, they’re being ducks!

This is Sandrah and a vase made in art class at Extreme High School Namayumba. The class went into the swamp to harvest clay, mold it, and dry it. This will be fired up in the open air oven this week.

Congratulations to the children and youth of Denville Community Church for reading and raising above and beyond for the children of Uganda!! And thank you sponsors for the incredible support. Thanks to their efforts through the Read to Roof challenge, their sponsored child, Namaganda Sophia, will be able to attend Extreme High School and Segawa's primary school will receive additional and much needed support.

Students from Morris Knolls High School and members of the community gathered this weekend to show love in action by performing dances, songs, and poetry. Money raised from the event will benefit students of Extreme High School Namayumba so they can take exams to graduate high school. Thank you, Morris Knolls!
