Yesterday Project Healing Waters - Denver had their on-river session of their Tenkara class. The Participants had a great time. Started a little slow on Bear Creek then moved to Clear Creek Canyon and had much better water! The participants all hooked into fish with their new skills! We want to thank George Smith from the Colorado Springs Program, for putting on this great class and Tracey Smith, for her coaching! Great Day on the water with fellow veterans!!

The second annual "Rocky Mountain Invitational" will be held on September 8th, 2026 and we are looking for sponsors.

The "Rocky Mountain Invitational" -(RMI) is a truly unique event, as well as a significant fundraiser for PHW Denver. RMI is a day of competitive fly fishing, and this year it will be held at the spectacular venue of Rawhide Ranch, thanks to the generous support of .colorado .

The event involves 10 teams; each consisting of a PHW Denver Veteran, a supportive Sponsor, and a professional fly fishing guide (donated by the support of several local fly shops).

To ensure this event is as successful as possible, we need YOUR help. We all need to be involved in the process of connecting with potential sponsors and donors who cherish supporting Veterans as well as love the therapeutic sport of fly fishing. If you know someone who may be a potential sponsor or donor, share the link below with them. This could be your employer, neighbor, local business you frequent....or even yourself. There are many levels of sponsorship, and donations of any amount is very appreciated.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email ([email protected]). If you do connect with a potential sponsor, and they want additional information on how they can support Project Healing Waters, they can contact me as well.

Fundraisers like this are what keeps our program going strong. PHW Denver is 100% staffed by volunteers, and relies solely on donations, fundraisers and grants to fuel the program.

Sponsonship information can be found at the link below:

What a great day we had at Black Bear Lake. The weather wasn't as hot as first forecasted, and the fish came out to welcome us! Everywhere I looked I saw bent rods and smiles on faces. Lots of largemouth bass where caught, and the wipers were big and fought hard. Such a fun trip, hope you all enjoyed the day and share the memories with others.

Deloitte PHW Fly Tying Event to support the National Parks Trust
On Friday, June 5th the Denver Program was privileged to support the fly-tying class given to 20 volunteers from the Deloitte company. The objective of the class was to fill 90 fly boxes, which will be used in Project Healing Waters partnership with the National Parks Trust. We want to thank Paul Moss, Pat Higgins, Jim Kawamoto, Val Roberts, Eric Esswein and Enrique Carbajal for their instruction and coaching, as most of the Deloitte volunteers had no fly-tying experience at all. They tied two fly patterns, a San Juan Worm and a Half Hackle dry fly. It was fun and awesome event of shared community and a little bit of fishing in the afternoon.
