The spiral is a powerful, ancient, and universal symbol across the planet, representing the growth, evolution, and the journey of life. There is no better symbol to represent the TLC journey.

In this season’s edition of TRANSP!RE, the TLC team shares:

“While we send ripple effects of transformation across the spiral of our influence across the Colorado (and national) movement ecosystem, we have simultaneously traveled inward, deepening our practice of embedding our Liberatory Leadership Values into every aspect of the organization.”

TRANSP!RE is a seasonal offering of movement wisdom, updates, and resources from Transformative Leadership for Change.

At the end of last year, the TLC community lost one of our most beloved members, Mimi Estelle Madrid Puga (he/they/she), 2021-2022 TLC Fellow, and Founder/Executive Director of Fortaleza Familiar, a community-based nonprofit dedicated to the wellbeing of Indigenous, Chicanx, Latinx, LGBTQ and Two-Spirit young people and their families in Colorado.

It is spring, and you can hear Mimi still speaking to us in the language of sunflower seeds, hummingbirds, and Assata Shakur chants. Mimi remains present in the soil of the earth, the stars in the cosmos, and in the winds that connect the two. Mimi lives on forever in the hearts and souls of those of us who had the privilege to love them and be loved by them.

Visit https://transformleaders.org to read our full tribute to Mimi in the latest edition of TRANSP!RE, a seasonal offering of movement wisdom, updates, and resources from Transformative Leadership for Change.

Our core values: ABUNDANCE 💐
We cultivate the spirit of abundance and shift paradigms of scarcity within ourselves and the TLC community. We reclaim our generational wealth through rich ancestral traditions and collective resilience, while unapologetically claiming an abundant future. In this spirit, we work to resource our communities through reparations, land back, wealth reclamation, and wealth redistribution. We practice stewarding these reclaimed resources in ways that promote new economic systems rooted in healing, care, justice, regeneration, and solidarity.

Across the many years we’ve been doing this work collectively as BIPOC leaders, many of us have shared a familiar feeling: Lack. Absence. Scarcity. We’ve been asked and tasked to build, lead, and hold communities without the resources to sustain them. Over time, the belief that there simply isn’t enough, can settle in. Deeply.

TLC began (almost 10 years ago!) by choosing something different: we reimagined a space for BIPOC leaders rooted in ABUNDANCE.

A space where support is real, resources are present, and the collective investment is visible. This takes agreement, and a shift in mindset. It takes a commitment to create and practice abundance in ways that can be felt.

Thank you for being part of creating this abundance with us.

Evolving with Intention 🌀

We are SO EXCITED to share TLC’s rebrand with all of you - the community that has grown alongside us! This is a reflection of how we’ve evolved through the work, the relationships, and the connected vision that we continue to build together.

Our goal is to revitalize and refresh the ways in which we bring visibility to our TLC community of change makers who are redefining our movement’s relationship to conflict, healing, and leadership. Profound gratitude to Design Action Collective who guided us through this process with such care and commitment. We are in LOVE with this new visual expression of TLC!

Our values remain at the core of everything we do:

Abundance
Joy
Creativity & Imagination
Accountability & Transparency
Gratitude
Rest & Sustainability
Stewardship
Healing
Boldness & Innovation

2026 (so far!) Vendor Shout Outs 🗣️

We all know that good food is one of the greatest connectors! It helps us settle into shared spaces, inviting us into comfort, ease, and good conversation when we gather. This is why the TLC team is so intentional about working with BIPOC caterers that make this co-creation possible.

/// Follow and support these providers. We’re thankful to have worked with them during our inaugural 2026 events and gatherings!

Taste The Love Cooking
We were introduced to this caterer through the Center for Community Wealth, and what a gift! Founded by Angela Ray, whose roots trace back to Kansas City, her cooking intertwines with family, legacy, and tradition. Inspired by her grandmother and a longing for KC-style barbecue and Creole cuisine, everything is made from scratch using family recipes. And yes, the pies really are legendary!

Mississippi Boy & Catfish
This is southern soul food in its truest form, right here in Denver! The food at Mississippi Boy & Catfish carries the spirit of Mississippi, and when you visit their Park Hill spot, you’re stepping right into a delicious southern experience, often accompanied by live jazz 🎷

Chi’íl Indigenous Foods
Chi’íl Indigenous Foods centers Indigenous ingredients, knowledge, and traditions. Their work honors ancestral foodways while centering connection and cultural continuity. We’re grateful to have shared space with them and to learn from what they bring to the table.

We’re sending deep love to our community. To our folx doing the hard work on the frontlines. To the legacy of our Black ancestors whose courage lives in us. We see you. We hear you.

Love is the foundation upon which every aspect of TLC has been built. We believe that love is the greatest resource available to us all. We cultivate spaces that center love for ourselves, each other and all living beings.

On this MLK Day, we’re thinking about what “progress” actually asks of us.

Dr. King reminded us that, “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.” Our lives, our labor, and our futures are linked, whether systems acknowledge that or not.

He also warned against us settling for surface change: “I am sure that none of you would want to rest content with the superficial kind of social analysis that deals merely with effects and does not grapple with underlying causes.”

Justice is the work of naming what is broken, holding those in positions of power accountable, restoring those who have carried the cost, and doing the hard and dangerous work of changing systems that decide who thrives, who barely survives, and who pays with their actual lives.

We stand with communities across who are pushing for something better.

Every day, we choose solidarity.

...and many more.
