SMAP joins our friends in Cerar Clan in mourning the deep loss of Sam Wybenga, who passed into the Eternal Halls of Mandalore on August 3rd, 2026, after his courageous battle with glioblastoma. We extend our most heartfelt condolences to his wife, Gr'c Me'Suum'ika (Elizabeth Cheshire), their daughter, Julia, and their beloved cat, Kreepy.
Sam embodied the very best of what it means to be a Mandalorian. His selfless service extended well beyond costuming; as a United States Marine and a volunteer with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sam demonstrated a lifelong commitment to duty and to helping others.
We in SMAP admire Sam’s steady, reliable presence that made the costuming community a true family. We will miss his strength in the face of adversity and his commitment to bringing joy through volunteering.
Sam lived the Mandalorian creed, "Aliit ori'shya tal'din" – family is more than blood. He was family to his clan, and a respected friend to ours.
To Cerar Clan and all who loved him: we stand with you in this difficult time.
