Mountain Valor Foundation is raising funds, in cooperation with Habitat for Humanity Corpus Christi, to build a home for Vietnam War hero and Purple Heart recipient SGT Lazaro “Airborne” Camarillo III. The home will be dedicated in honor of local civil rights leader Dr. Hector P. Garcia to reflect his legacy. SGT Camarillo is highly decorated, having earned the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, and more for his service. To support the effort, a skydiving fundraiser event—Parachuting for a Purpose—will be held in Tampa, FL, featuring veteran meetups and VIP guests.

Today, we celebrate the founding of the Air Force Reserve, officially established on April 14, 1948—just months after the U.S. Air Force became a separate branch of service.

But this milestone is rooted in even earlier history, tracing back to the National Defense Act of 1916, which first authorized the creation of reserve forces as a permanent part of America's military structure.

For over 75 years, the Air Force Reserve has played a vital role in national defense—supporting global operations, disaster response, humanitarian efforts, and ensuring the strength and readiness of our armed forces.
