Founded in 1991 by Reverend Al Sharpton, NAN works within the spirit and tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to promote a modern civil rights agenda that includes the fight for one standard of justice, decency and equal opportunities for all people regardless of race, religion, national origin, and gender.As the Colorado Chapter of NAN in the state & territory of Denver, Colorado, we subscrib
e to this statement of purpose. National Action Network Colorado currently consists of community leaders and organizations, activists, public figures, senators, lawyers, and other members who are already active in the areas in which NAN Colorado focuses. NAN Colorado focuses its efforts in the following areas, which are organized by committees:
1. Finance/Economic Empowerment – establishing a strong economic base including financial and economic literacy programs, housing/homeless initiatives, and other economic programing
2. Education – advocating for education justice, equity and combatting the school to prison pipeline
3. Political Action/Criminal Justice Reform – lobbying for changes in policy, law, and procedure in various areas of law. NAN Colorado’s membership includes attorneys who are actively advocating for legislative reform in various areas including criminal justice reform, civil rights and education.
4. Health and Wellness – providing various health resources including physical and mental health support and education and healing arts services
5. Legal Advice/Assistance – providing a list of legal professionals to assist in the areas of our focus and beyond, which will also serve as a sound central database for legal assistance in the community. NAN Colorado also serves as a general resource center for the community. We will host informational sessions on various issues that impact our community and areas of focus. CRISIS CALL CENTER
NAN Colorado also provides a central crisis call center for assistance with issues or concerns in any of NAN Colorado’s areas of focus. If you or someone you know has a concern or need in our areas of focus, please feel free to contact NAN at 1-877-626-4651. NAN Colorado representatives will gather your information and learn more about your concern or issue. We will then direct you to the appropriate member of NAN Colorado to provide appropriate resources and assistance.
