Kart Racing For Heroes

Kart Racing For Heroes Mr. Mansfield created the annual ‘Kart Racing for Heroes’events in an effort to combat the stress facing returning veterans, police, fireman and first resp

It's all organized by a man who lost his son to a drunk driver and appreciates the hard job our first responders have when it comes to responding to the scene of a fatal drunk driving accident. "We don't always realize what it takes to do these jobs," says Event Organizer Craig Mansfield. "They're on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week and you and I are at home sleeping in our beds. Safe becaus

e of what they do." As it turns out, KKCO 11 News Noon Anchor Leigh Ashman took third place at today's event. Though it was KKCO 11 News Anchor Glen Mills who says it best about why everyone was present today, "In the business we work in, we talk about drunk driving all the time and we can see the devastating effect it can have [drunk driving]. You really feel for the law enforcement officers who have to go onto that scene and what they see." This weekend's event also gives members of the public the chance to thank our service men and women as well as first responders, try on impairment goggles and get signed up for the Buddy Program. It gives you a list of someone to fall back on if you ever find yourself unable to drive home after a night out. Sunday morning there's a pancake breakfast for Father's Day. It's $4/person and the money goes to the Grand Mesa Little League. That starts at 7 a.m. and is followed by a day of kart racing by some of the hottest drivers in the state.

HELLO to all my friends. This is my family’s 18th year of running Kart Racing for Heroes events in honor of my son, Senior Airman Kristopher George Mansfield who was killed by an impaired driver. These are events that honor the people who are affected by impaired driving in their daily lives: the police, fireman, medics, tow truck drivers, families who deal with impaired driving crashes that didn’t have to happen.

We are holding this year’s first event with the fantastic help of the Colorado Karting Circuit at Centennial on Saturday June 21st. If you have contacts with any of the above Heroes, please contact me so we can arrange their attendance. Kart Racing for Heroes is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and with the help of donations (www.kartracingforheroes.org), these events are free of charge for all participants.

My 27,010 days of life have shown me many things. Respect the past, live for today and work to make it to the future. On this special day, I am proud to announce the fifteenth year of KART RACING FOR HEROES events. At these events, we honor police, firefighters, medics, MADD and military personnel who deal with the carnage of impaired driving. The first event this year will be on June 3rd at Grand Junction Motorsports. The second will be at Action Karting on August 20th. You may share this information with others or give me their info and I will contact them directly. We provide the karts and safety equipment, food, trophies and T-shirts listing our sponsors, at no cost for the participants.
I have a 501C3 so donations are encouraged and appreciated. Message me for further details.

The first event at this time will be July 18 at SBR track in Calhan-Colorado Springs, subject to health concerns at that time.

The second event will be at Action Karting at Bandimere, August 22.
