Trans and Gender Nonconforming Youth (TGNC) youth are overrepresented in out-of-home care and under-protected by the systems meant to serve them.

Join Luna Isaiah Floyd, JD (Lambda Legal) and Elliott Orrin Hinkle, BS (Unicorn Solutions, LLC) as they give child-serving attorneys practical frameworks and real tools for changing that, one client at a time. Trainers will invite attorneys to go deeper in understanding barriers, how to create partnerships, and what zealous advocacy means right now.

The Indian Child Welfare Act was passed into law in 1978 and upheld by the Supreme Court in 2023.

ICWA alone may not resolve the deep inequities that exist for Indigenous families experiencing the child protection system. However, when accompanied by resources, training, culturally humble approaches, and other best practices, ICWA helps address inequities and repair harm.

NACC seeks out opportunities to provide and uplift resources and trainings to help child welfare professionals utilize ICWA to its fullest potential.

Today, we’re celebrating 3️⃣years since the Supreme Court voted to uphold the Indian Child Welfare Act.

ICWA helps prevent unnecessary removals by requiring government agencies to make active efforts before removing Indigenous children from their parents. When state and county agencies do separate families, ICWA holds them responsible for making active efforts toward reunification and prioritizes placements with kin or tribes.
