DITA Interns rock! Happy to our entire cohort of creative young leaders. Pictured here (center) is Erin, who is interning at Levitt Pavilion Denver. Erin says,
“[Interning with] Levitt Pavilion has been one of the best experiences I’ve ever had! I’ve had the opportunity to do just about everything, from guest services, to stage handing, to digital marketing, to stage managing. Every time I step foot at the venue, I know I’ll have fun doing whatever!” We love watching interns discover the possibilities of a career in the arts.

"It's really difficult to take up space and be authentic to who you are. It's hard to be a Black artist in a town where the culture is hidden, erased, replaced. I want to tell the stories of my people, my surroundings, my peers, and that doesn't always fit in the Colorado box." Aisha Renee, an artist and arts educator, was one of three panelists who spoke to this summer's DITA interns and their peers from the Pathways Exploration Internship at the Denver Art Museum during our Learning & Networking event in late June.

DITA alumni board member Keandra Hunt led panelists in a discussion about working in the arts in Denver: the joys, the struggles, the realities of finding aligned opportunities as humans who defy being put into a box. Along with Renee, music professional Alicia "Bruce" Trujillo and artist Jeff Page shared their journeys to creative careers, how they've created the spaces they felt were lacking in Denver, and how they've stayed true to themselves in an often unfriendly arts world.

As Page put it, "I had to create my own opportunities for myself...One of the great things about being an artist is it strengthens the skill of making things happen. You have to draw the door and go through it. Think to yourself, this doesn't exist in my community, so I'm gonna go make it."

Interns were also given docent-led tours of the DAM's Hamilton galleries. Thanks to our colleagues at DAM for hosting, and to our panelists for telling the truth and inspiring the youth ✨

Our Vision

To create a pipeline of leaders in the arts who will represent communities of color and other populations generally underrepresented in Colorado’s arts organizations and to normalize equity and diversity within these organizations.

The Diversity in the Arts Internship will achieve our mission by:

  • Recruiting and placing exceptional college students of traditionally underrepresented populations in internships throughout Denver’s artistic and cultural community.

  • Cultivating impactful and mindful relationships between interns and leaders within the arts community.
