Happy National Donut Day! Today, we celebrate a sweet tradition that began with The Salvation Army's Donut Lassies, who served donuts and encouragement to soldiers during World War I.
A heartfelt thank you to Lamars Donuts & Coffee, our incredible media partners KOAM News Now, and the dedicated staff at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center for helping us honor this special day and the veterans who have served our nation. Your partnerships help us continue a legacy of compassion, service, and hope.
Together, we're sharing more than donuts, we're sharing gratitude, community, and support for those who have sacrificed so much.

Celebrate with us! National Donut Day started with The Salvation Army. During World War I, the "Donut Lassies" served donuts and encouragement to American soldiers. Today, we honor that legacy by supporting veterans in our community. Enjoy a donut, celebrate a tradition of service, and help provide hope and assistance to those who have served.

National Donut Day is almost here! 🍩 This year, on June 5, we’ll celebrate Donut Day across the nation.

Donut Day was created to honor the Salvation Army’s “Donut Lassies,” who served fresh donuts and support to soldiers during World War I.

Feeling inspired? Here’s the original WWI-style donut recipe to try for yourself:

Yield: approximately 12 donuts

Ingredients:
• 1 large egg
• 1 cup flour
• ½ cup sugar
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• pinch of salt
• ⅓ cup milk
• oil for frying

Directions:

Combine all ingredients (except the oil) to make the dough.
Thoroughly knead the dough, roll smooth, and cut into rings less than 1/4 inch thick. (Get creative—Salvation Army Donut Lassies used whatever they could find, from baking powder cans to coffee percolator tubes!)
Drop the rings into hot oil, turning slowly several times until golden brown.
Remove the donuts and allow excess oil to drip off.
Dust with powdered sugar, let cool, and enjoy!

If you give this historic recipe a try, tag us in your post—we’d love to see your creations! 🍩

A Sunday reminder to stay rooted in what matters most. ❤️

In a world constantly telling us what to chase, Romans 12:2 calls us to something different—to be transformed by faith, renewed in mind, and grounded in God’s truth.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” — Romans 12:2

🍩 A sweet tradition with a purpose.

On June 6, join us and LaMar's Donuts & Coffee in celebrating National Donut Day across the Denver metro area!

The tradition began during World War I when The Salvation Army “Donut Lassies” served fresh donuts to soldiers on the front lines, bringing comfort, connection, and a taste of home. We’re honored to continue that legacy alongside our friends at LaMar’s.

Stop by any Denver metro LaMar’s location for a FREE glazed donut, and consider supporting your local Salvation Army programs and veterans services while you’re there.

Throughout the day, Salvation Army officers and volunteers will deliver donuts to first responders, frontline workers, and veterans across our community.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

As we close out National Salvation Army Week, this verse beautifully reflects the heart of The Salvation Army’s mission across the Intermountain Division. From disaster response and food assistance to shelter, spiritual care, and community support, carrying one another’s burdens is more than a calling.

It’s love in action. ❤️

Grateful for our partnership with the Rotary Club of Denver. They kicked off the year by collecting non‑perishable food items for our Aurora Corps Food Pantry. Their generosity helps keep our shelves stocked and supports families locally in Aurora.
