Today is Giving Tuesday where people from all over donate to their favorite nonprofits. At Impact we're asking that today, if you're able, please consider donating to Impact Locally's efforts to launch our new Humanity Resource Center!

For the last four year the Humanity Clothing and Hygiene store has been a free store where those in need could come in and shop, being treated with dignity and respect and able to feel like a normal person shopping in a store, only difference is there are no price tags or cash registers, we're paid in handshakes and hugs! Serving literally hundreds of thousands of people in need and handing out millions of pounds of clothing and hygiene items!

In 2021 we were broken into five times and were forced to shut down our current location. This has been a huge hit to the community as many don't know we're the only full time adult clothing bank in the state of Colorado.

However we're not only in the process of opening a new location but expanding services to include the following;

Computer Lab
Class Room for Job Skills
On site Guidance Counselors
Addiction Recovery
Laundry Services
Haircut Stations
Free Cafe Kiosk

With all of the recent break ins and being vandalized Impact is forced to find a new home for our Humanity program, but this isn't a sad day because when we reopen we promise to expand services and to come back better than ever!

WHAT IF....

What if instead of handing someone who's homeless a sack lunch with no option of what to eat there was a place where additional to free clothing and hygiene items they could order a free lunch, and pick what they want to eat and drink. Where they could sit down to eat or take it to go!

The closure of the 300-bed shelter at the Denver Coliseum comes at a time when the shelter has been running at a nearly full capacity. People who have called the Coliseum home tell Denver7 they’re anxious for what’s to come.

I will say one thing, is as amazing as was this morning to pick up 400+ winter coats for the Humanity Clothing and Hygiene bank, the harsh reality is we are literally days away from running out of blankets, gloves, beanies, and we are already out of handwarmer packs, cold weather sleeping bags, and emergency blankets!

I know it's easy to forget because we don't see snow on the ground that temps at night are down in the 30s!! This is the time of year when people suffer from frostbite and die from hypothermia!

PSA - PLEASE SHARE

If you live in Denver and plan on voting today (which you definitely should) please vote NO on 303!

Hands down this is the Denver County once again trying to criminalize being homeless! Previously the camping ban law was shot down and repealed for being a violation of constitutional rights! Once again Denver officials are trying to sneak in a bill that would criminalize being homeless!

Here's the thing I get it no one wants to see tents on the side of the road but what this does is allow local government to get away with once again providing real lasting solutions for those living on the streets!

Denver has been promising for years to create authorized encampments and to date have done little for so many! Meanwhile tax payers continue to pay Denver tens of millions of dollars a year while shelters are shutting down due to a lack of funding! Currently shelters are only able to house less than 8% of the population!
It's time Denver voters actually hold the city and county officials accountable for the wasted money and lack of effort from our government! The homeless don't need more police enforcement but real long term solutions.

The #1 cause for homelessness for the last 10 years in Denver is NOT drugs, alcohol, laziness or because people choose it, as James Carville once said "It's the economy stupid!". We've seen homelessness increase 33% over the last year and it's expected to increase another 45% over the next!

If we don't start investing in REAL solutions, not temporary measures that only help a fraction of those in need we're going to become LA! So demand that the city do better, demand that we get real solutions, demand humane solutions and demand accountability for the wasted tax payers money!
