Project KARE

Project KARE Project KARE delivers school supplies to Karen people in Kaw Thoo Lei - Karen State in Burma - Myanmar. Checks can be written to Project KARE.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Since 2013, Project KARE has made annual trips to deliver school supplies to 4,000+ students, including pens, pencils, notebooks, chalk, erasers, more than 65 used laptop computers, printers, copy paper, plus an 11 Kw diesel generator. Thanks to your generous donations, students now develop computer skills to help open doors for the few employment opportunities that exist with NG

Os in camp and to help prepare them for resettlement in a new country. Project KARE has facilitated trips for many volunteers to teach at Mae Ra Moe refugee camp. One consistent request in our meetings with education leaders in camp is .... "we would love to have more volunteer English teachers for our students!" If you know an adventurous teacher who might be willing to travel to rural northern Thailand to help the Karen people, please have them contact us! WHO WE ARE:

Project KARE has three founding board members. Su Baw and her family lived in Mae Ra Moe Refugee Camp from 1995 to 2010 before being resettled in Aurora, CO. Michaely is the Adult Education Director at the Asian Pacific Development Center (APDC) where Su Baw and many other Karen refugees study to improve English language skills. Ron Levis is Su Baw’s ESL Tutor at APDC and he volunteers teaching English at Mae Ra Moe and in Karen State. HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Help us provide school supplies to future Karen leaders. You can hand deliver your donation to one of our co-founders, Su Baw, Michaely or Ron. Or you can donate on-line at:

Project KARE is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit org. US donations are tax-exempt. Tax ID #: 47-3534799.

Thank you to our amazing Project KARE donors who make it possible every year to deliver school supplies to underserved Karen communities in Kaw Thoo Lei / Karen State in Myanmar / Burma. We're grateful to Karen leaders who serve these communities who endure persistent threats of bombing of civilian targets by the Burma Army junta.

Persecution of the Karen people continues in Burma / Myanmar in more extreme and inhumane ways, yet exposure in international news is rare.

Mass killing by the Burmese military. On 7th March, 30 civilians including 14 children were killed by the Burmese military attacks in Kler Lwee Htu, Kawthoolei.

Another 160 villagers have been illegally detained and used as human shields.

This is war crimes and crimes against humanity. The Burmese military is repeatedly breaking international laws.

Urgent international action is needed to cut sources of jet fuel and money reaching the Burmese military.

Urgent UK action is needed. The UK has not sanctioned jet fuel exports to Burma, as Canada has. It has not sanctioned Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise, as the EU has. It has not sanctioned the military-owned mobile phone company Mytel, as the USA has. It has not sanctioned Myanma Foreign Trade Bank and Myanma Investment and Commercial Bank, as Australia has.

- > - > Now it's time to donate to buy school supplies when we return on our next KARE trip in early 2026! < - < -

We’ve continued to support Karen students each year since 2013. We respond directly to the needs of the students we serve. We rely on education leaders in Karen State to determine which supplies are most critical to support educational goals. With your donations, we’ll be funding the purchase of student notebooks, pens, pencils, copy paper and sports equipment for thousands of students in dozens of schools. These supples, while they might seem very basic, are out of reach for many families in Karen State. Your donations make it possible for many of the students to simply attend school.

If you would like to make a donation to buy school supplies you could donate via our PayPal or Venmo accounts or contact us directly if you prefer to send a check. The links are on our website - https://projectkare.org/donate/blog If you prefer, you could hand deliver your gift to Project KARE in person to co-founders Su Baw, Michaely Rosas or Ron Levis.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions, any time. We’re deeply grateful for all you have done for the Karen people!
