Don't miss the Denver ISSA October Chapter Meetings featuring Natalia Samman.

💡 Meet the speaker: Natalia Samman

Natalia Samman is on a mission to save the world from burnout. A licensed clinical social worker, coach, facilitator, and keynote speaker, Natalia teaches the tools out of her “therapist toolbox” to the cybersecurity world. The results? Employees who are able to maximize performance while managing stress, leaders who are able to connect with, optimize, and motivate their teams, and families who are able to have their beloved, overworked, high-achievers finally back at the dinner table by 6pm. Her talks are highly actionable, with easy-to-digest scientific concepts combined with hilarious storytelling (at least she thinks so!). Attendees walk away with a better understanding of the psychology of burnout, and customized tools they can implement immediately to regain control of their culture, workload, and stress.

👋 What we will learn: “Preventing Burnout in Cybersecurity”

Cybersecurity is uniquely vulnerable to burnout, and the data agrees: as many as 80% of cybersecurity professionals cite overwhelming stress as interfering with their ability to protect client data. We all feel it, don't we? Burnout impacts performance, profits, and people. But when we identify and specifically mitigate the factors that lead to burnout, real solutions emerge. Solutions that improve organizational outcomes and employee energy and overall happiness. Come learn how to identify and mitigate the cybersecurity burnout risks, with a few laughs along the way!

⭐ Board Member Spotlight: Aaron Baldwin

Meet Aaron Baldwin, Operations Director for Denver ISSA and an experienced technology professional with a background in systems architecture, infrastructure, and enterprise technology.

Aaron brings years of hands-on technical experience to the Denver ISSA community. In his professional career, he has worked extensively with enterprise systems and infrastructure, including architecting, building, and maintaining technology environments designed to support users and organizations at scale.

He also brings his technical perspective directly to the cybersecurity community. Aaron has spoken at RMISC on the connection between security engineers and executive leadership, sharing insights on collaboration, professional growth, and the role engineers play in solving complex technical challenges.

As Operations Director for Denver ISSA, Aaron helps support the work that keeps our chapter active, connected, and creating valuable opportunities for Colorado’s cybersecurity professionals.

🏆 Celebrating Carlin Dornbusch and an incredible recognition from ISSA International!

We’re excited to recognize Carlin Dornbusch, Denver ISSA Recording Secretary, who was recently honored as an ISSA Fellow at the ISSA International Gala in Colorado Springs.

Carlin was surrounded by members of his Denver ISSA community who were there to celebrate and support him, including Gina Yacone, Gene McGowan Jr., Heidi McDonald, Paul Herbka, CISSP, CEH, and Randall Frietzsche.

As Carlin shared, “it takes a village” to protect our assets from the rise in threat actors, and the education, mentoring, leadership, and relationships built through ISSA are an important part of that work.

👏 Congratulations, Carlin, on this well-deserved recognition! We’re grateful for your leadership and contributions to Denver ISSA and proud to see our community come together to celebrate this achievement.

🎤 What keeps our Denver ISSA President involved in the community?

For Scott McCandless, Denver ISSA has been a place for growth, connection, and opportunity throughout the years.

🎤 Denver ISSA’s Paul Herbka is speaking at SecureWorld Denver!

We’re excited to highlight Paul Herbka, Denver ISSA Membership Director, who will be presenting at SecureWorld Denver on October 1.

His session, “Become a Business Communicator. Special Denver ISSA educational event for Secure World!”, will focus on helping technical professionals communicate cybersecurity risk in a way that connects with business priorities and decision-makers.

💡 Session Abstract:

Technical professionals who can translate cyber risk into business impact earn greater influence and a stronger voice in critical decisions. Practice turning complex cybersecurity issues into clear conversations about risk, value, and outcomes. Leave ready to communicate with executives, recommend action, and stay in the rooms where important decisions are made.

🎤 About Paul Herbka:

Paul Herbka is an AI and cybersecurity strategist, speaker, author, CISSP, and CEH with more than 35 years of experience translating technical complexity into business value. A former CEO and CISO, Paul has led global teams across software development, DevOps, security operations, incident response, sales, product management, and marketing. He currently serves as VP of AI Transformation & Cyber Strategy at 6e Technologies and as an ISSA Denver board member.
