is a Colorado registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that began as a movement designed to help Latina women gain entry and succeed in mainstream education, employment and economic systems, while retaining their cultural values. This movement was designed to help Latina women gain entry and succeed in mainstream education, employment and economic systems, while retaining their cultural values. Leaders of this movement organized statewide bi-annual conferences that provided a forum where Latinas from diverse backgrounds could share their experiences and gain insights from experts in the areas of cultural leadership, education, employment, and job training. Over the years the conferences proved to be powerful motivating events for the thousands of women who have attended. Even more powerful were the results for the hundreds of women who learned about leadership by planning conferences. held events to recognize the efforts and strides being made by Latinas in education, training, business and other areas. The first Bi-annual Leadership Brunch was held in the spring of 1976 to honor Latinas. In 1998, the founders of Adelante Mujer incorporated the organization as a nonprofit to ensure the continuation of this great movement—creating leadership opportunities and advancing the goals of Latinas in education, training, and employment. Over the past 30 years, Adelante Mujer has remained committed to providing a forum where Latinas can share their experiences and learn from each other. In the future, Adelante Mujer will continue to provide workshops and other learning experiences to Latinas of all ages.

🌟 Introducing our Latinas en Acción September spotlight: Dra. Juana Bordas!

Dra. Juana Bordas is recognized as a visionary and icon in the world of leadership, diversity, and the advancement of Latinos and communities of color. As a founder of Mi Casa Resource Center, she spent the first decade of her career building one of Colorado's most beloved community institutions — and she has never stopped building since. Juana's impact has only grown with time. In 1997 she was inducted into the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame, and in 2023 her legacy was honored with a documentary on her life, The Voice and Vision of Latina Leadership. A recipient of the International Leadership Association's 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award, she is also the author of two bestselling books — Salsa, Soul, and Spirit: Leadership for a Multicultural Age and The Power of Latino Leadership – Ahora!

But what makes Dra. Bordas truly extraordinary is that she never stops dreaming for her comunidad. This Hispanic Heritage Month, she is championing De Colores — a movement rooted in a song that has united Latino communities for centuries, from the fields of the United Farm Workers to schoolrooms across the hemisphere. As she says, "Latinos are de colores — multicultural people of the future. This anthem can unify us through pride, power, and purpose."

Dra. Bordas has supported Adelante Mujer, Inc. and so many others, showing up for our comunidad with the same generosity and vision she brings to everything she does.

Thank you, Dra. Bordas, for a lifetime of lifting and for continuing to inspire the next generation of Latina leaders. ¡Gracias por todo!

✨ Introducing our Latinas en Acción August spotlight: Renee Ferrufino!

Renee Ferrufino made history in January 2025 when she became the first Latina to lead The Women's Foundation of Colorado — and she arrived at that moment having already spent years transforming philanthropy from the inside. As Vice President of Development, she designed the Women & Girls of Color Fund, granting millions to nonprofits since 2021, and developed the nation's first women's impact investing giving circle, providing low-interest loans to women entrepreneurs. Renee's vision has always been to leverage every resource available to create lasting change for women and girls. Her impact has not gone unnoticed.

Renee was named a 2024 "Who's Who In Impact Investing" by the Denver Business Journal and a 2024 Top 25 Most Powerful Women in Business by the Colorado Women's Chamber of Commerce — honors that reflect a career built on bold, purpose-driven leadership.

Adelante Mujer, Inc. had the privilege of experiencing Renee's story firsthand. This past March, she joined us as our keynote speaker at our LaTEENa Conference and Advanced Leadership Symposium — and left every mujer in that room inspired.

Thank you, Renee, for using your platform to lift the next generation of Latina leaders. We are so grateful to have you in our corner. ¡Gracias por todo! 💜

🎉 We are thrilled to announce Marlene De La Rosa as this year's Mariposa Community Service Award honoree at Adelante Mujer, Inc.'s 12th Annual Butterfly Brunch on September 20th!

Marlene has been showing up for her community since she was a teenager, and she has not stopped since. What started with the Chicano Education Project and championing the Hispanic Culture Center on her college campus has grown into decades of consistent, unwavering service across Denver and beyond. From education to civic leadership to giving circles, Marlene has given her time, her voice, and her heart to her comunidad in every season of her life.

Today she holds elected, appointed, and volunteer roles across the city, including the Denver Public Schools Board of Education, Denver's Latino Commission, LatinasGive!, and most recently a pilot program placing student ambassadors on the Mayor's advisory commissions. Her passion for service is not just something she does. It is who she is, and it is something she has passed on to her children.

Join us on September 20th as we honor and celebrate this incredible advocate, educator, and servant leader at Adelante Mujer, Inc.'s 12th Annual Butterfly Brunch!
