🌟 Introducing our Latinas en Acción May spotlight: Flo Hernández-Ramos!
Flo Hernández-Ramos saw what was missing from Denver's airwaves — a positive reflection of Latino art, culture, and traditions — and along with numerous volunteers, she built it. Co-founding award-winning KUVO 89.3 FM in 1985, she served as its President and CEO for 23 years, creating a full-time home for jazz, Latin jazz, and blues, and beloved weekend programs like Canción Mexicana — which she created and hosted herself, and which the local press dubbed "the spiciest" program on radio, rated number one in Denver in its timeslot. Under her leadership, KUVO grew into an institution inducted into both the Chicano Music Hall of Fame and the Colorado Music Hall of Fame, and continues broadcasting 40 years later.
After retiring from KUVO, Flo went on to co-found and serve as the first CEO of the Latino Public Radio Consortium, representing Latino public radio stations across 14 states and Puerto Rico — ensuring our stories were heard on a national stage. She now serves as an Emeritus member of the Rocky Mountain Public Media Board of Directors.
Flo has been a faithful supporter of Adelante Mujer, Inc. for decades — a leader who does great things with humility, always making connections behind the scenes to help others in our community succeed. Her legacy is proof that when a Latina decides her community deserves to be heard, she finds a way to make it happen. That is the vision we carry forward and hold for every young mujer we serve.
Thank you, Flo, for showing us what bold, purpose-driven, and generous leadership looks like. We are so grateful to have you in our corner. ¡Gracias por todo! 💜
