Gratitude post! Neurodiversity Resource of the Panhandle is the designated charity of TBI Medslp's latest merch fundraiser, Goals Before Holes. The 501(3)(c) dedicated to improving patient outcomes by providing brain injury education, resources, and support for healthcare providers, is teaming up with Chelsey Ernst, PA-C for a limited edition t-shirt collaboration. The goal: Sharing understanding that feeding tubes and medical intervention should start with a patient's goals and values, not just the procedure itself. Proceeds will fund TBI MedSLP's clinician education work, with a portion going to the NRP's Financial Aid Program. Thanks so much to Tracie Bearden and TBI Medslp for making us this campaign's nonprofit partner! 💙

➡️The first 24–48 hours after a concussion can significantly influence recovery.
•
🧠 Patients often leave the initial injury believing they are “fine,” but symptoms may develop or worsen during the following hours.
•
👩🏼‍⚕️ For speech therapists working with neurological patients, early education about rest, symptom monitoring, and red flags is essential for patient safety.
•
📚Education improves outcomes—and awareness improves care.

Brain injuries can evolve rapidly after the initial trauma.
•
That’s why recognizing concussion red flags is essential for speech therapists and all providers working with patients recovering from neurological conditions.
•
Education helps clinicians identify danger signs and advocate for timely care.

Over 50% of concussions go undiagnosed or unreported.
•
Many brain injury symptoms are invisible.
•
Patients may look “fine” while experiencing significant challenges with attention, fatigue, language, and emotional regulation.
•
Understanding these realities helps clinicians advocate for patients and reduce stigma.

Most speech therapists and healthcare providers learn to recognize concussion symptoms.
Few are taught the true scale of traumatic brain injury in the United States.
•
Every year, 214,000+ people are hospitalized and nearly 70,000 die from traumatic brain injury.
•
👩🏼‍⚕️For medical speech-language pathologists and neuro clinicians, these aren’t just statistics. They represent patients navigating changes in memory, attention, language, emotional regulation, and identity after brain injury.
•
Brain injury is not rare — it is a major neurological public health issue.
•
🧠During Brain Injury Awareness Month, education is one of the most powerful ways we can reduce stigma and improve care.

🧠 For many people, the hardest part of brain injury recovery begins after leaving the hospital.
•
Speech-language pathologists see it every day—survivors navigating lasting changes in cognition, communication, swallowing, and identity while trying to find reliable resources.
•
This Brain Injury Awareness Month, TBI MedSLP is launching our 2026 fundraiser to expand brain injury education, outreach, and advocacy.
•
Proceeds will be shared {50/50} with the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) to strengthen national support for survivors, families, and speech-language pathologists working in neurorehabilitation.
•
If you believe in patient-centered neurorehabilitation and expanding access to brain injury resources, we invite you to help move this work forward.

Over 214,000 hospitalizations and nearly 70,000 deaths each year in the U.S. are linked to traumatic brain injury.

Brain injury is not rare. It is a major public health issue.

Falls, car accidents, sports injuries, and assaults are leading causes — and prevention matters.

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month 💚

An acquired brain injury (ABI) is any injury to the brain that happens after birth. That includes traumatic brain injury (TBI) from falls, car accidents, or sports — and also medical causes like stroke, lack of oxygen, tumors, infection, or overdose.

Many people think brain injury only means concussion.
It doesn’t.

Brain injuries can be invisible.
They can change memory, speech, sleep, emotions, focus, and identity.
And millions of Americans are living with the lifelong impact.

Understanding the difference between TBI and ABI (acquired brain injury) helps reduce stigma, improve prevention, and connect survivors to the right support.
