Good news Friday! Last night, Hate Free Colorado received the Outstanding Non-Profit award at the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office Victims' Rights Week Award Ceremony. The award was presented by 18th Judicial District Attorney John Kellner and recognized the coalition's work to prevent and respond to hate crimes, as well as support targets of hate.

Congratulations to all of the Hate Free Colorado partners!

There is more work to do and we are stronger together.

Hate Free Colorado is deeply saddened by the mass shooting last night in Monterey Park, CA. We join all those grieving the tragic loss of life on what should have been a weekend of joyous Lunar New Year celebrations.

Saturday was the start of the two-day festival in the city of Monterey Park, which is one of the largest Lunar New Year events in Southern California.

The Club Q attack did not happen in a vacuum. Dangerous narratives about LGBTQ+ people have been fueled by a slew of hostile legislation and policies aimed at erasing the discussion of LGBTQ+ related issues in schools, removing LGBTQ+ books from school and public libraries and, especially, to ostracize, defame and harass transgender people. Politicians, extremists and pundits alike are fanning the flames of this hateful campaign and it must stop now.

This story includes a summary of Hate Free Colorado's recent statewide survey on hate crimes.

Hate Free Colorado is closely monitoring the horrific shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs. All Hate Free Colorado partners stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community in Colorado and beyond. We are heart broken and extend our support, care and concern to all those impacted by this shooting.

Five people are dead and multiple others are injured after a shooting at a Colorado Springs nightclub, according to police. Suspect is in custody.

The results of Hate Free Colorado's statewide hate crime survey are out and here's the key takeaway:

Nearly 3 in 10 adult Coloradans said they experienced a hate crime or bias-motivated incident in the last five years. That means an estimated 1.25 million Coloradans experienced being targeted with physical injury, property damage, and/or verbal harassment.

All Coloradans must stand together to say that hate has no place in our state.

The study found that about 30 percent of adults in Colorado have experienced hate crimes, including verbal harassment, property damage or physical injury.
