CATE will feature many engaging, educational sessions on the EI track, including Paula Landry and Sally Burch’s short course, “ABCs of Access: Building a Foundation for Communication using AAC for Children with CVI.”

Participants will explore identification, assessment, and developmental impact while gaining a step-by-step framework to improve visual access and meaningful communication outcomes for young children with CVI.

Paula and Sally’s breakout session will run from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on June 4th and 5th. Register for CATE today! https://web.cvent.com/event/322da0b7-2cc6-45ec-9972-c0db14463450/summary

No age is too young to introduce AAC!

Every child has something to say. Every single one. For children who have complex communication needs, AAC — Augmentative and Alternative Communication — is the tool that makes their voice heard. Whether it's a symbol-based app, a speech-generating device, or a picture board, AAC gives children the power to express their thoughts, their needs, and their whole selves.

Assistive Technology is... telling you what I think. 💛

Know a child or family who has been changed by AAC? Share their story (with permission!) using .

There’s just one more month until CATE, CIDE’s annual Conference for Assistive Technology in Education, and we couldn’t be more excited! CATE will feature many engaging, educational sessions on the EI track, including Lindsay Brough’s breakout session, “Erase the Prerequisites: Evidence-Based SGD Access From Day One.”

In this session, discover why speech-generating devices (SGDs) do not require prerequisite skills—and how early access supports communication, learning, and engagement. This session dispels common readiness myths using evidence and real case studies, and offers practical, developmentally appropriate strategies for introducing robust SGDs from day one for emerging communicators.

Lindsay’s session will run from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. on June 5th. Register for CATE today! https://web.cvent.com/event/322da0b7-2cc6-45ec-9972-c0db14463450/summary
