Man shares how police on motorcycles rolled up onto the sidewalk to tell him and his friends they could not sit on the sidewalk. They were sitting on a public sidewalk next to an abandoned building. Yes, they were smoking weed…but regardless police told them the sidewalk was private and they had to move. A lie - sidewalks are not private!?$

Woman shares how Samaritan house woman’s shelter has a long line of woman waiting to get in every night and many do not get in. If there is no more space the door is just closed and they are told to maybe try to take the bus to aurora to get in their shelter. The woman’s shelters are totally full and Denver is just sending people to aurora?!$&

RESOURCE FOR HOUSELESS/HOUSING INSECURE/VEHICLE DWELLING FRIENDS!!! Priority given to people actively living in their vehicles. 🚙💨

Restarting this Thursday evening, we will be offering volunteer mechanic services every 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month from 5-8pm to check out your vehicle & offer you expert advice on how to keep it functioning at the lowest cost for the longest time.

WANT TO SUPPORT THE CAR CLINIC?

🚘 If you are a CAR MECHANIC YOURSELF, or know enough to cover common repairs, we could always use more hands on deck! Connect with us ahead of time to let us know you’re available.

🚘 If you offer LOW-COST GARAGE SERVICES or sell parts yourself, please reach out! We’d love to support small, caring businesses & collab to cover all needs that our mobile mechanic might not be able to alone.

🚘 At this time, we cannot offer funds to replace parts, but community can DONATE SPARE PARTS/FUNDS specifically to purchase more expensive parts needed!

☀️ Support our houseless families & folx directly impacted by ICE detention/deportation by buying their unique wares & delicious foods each Sunday between 10am-3pm outside of Highlands United Methodist Church (3131 Osceola St).

🌻 This market is about AUTONOMY & COMMUNITY - the 2 most mentioned categories in from the >1000 houseless voices who contributed to our 2023 Housing Report “Pipe Dreams & Picket Fences”. Autonomy & community are what the people want & deserve.

🏷️ Sanctuary Market was created under the leadership of renowned migrant rights activist & as a means to support herself & her community as a person with decades of lived experience & fierce advocacy. HAND knows that the leadership of those with personal experience is vital for creating viable & lasting solutions to our communities’ greatest challenges.

HAND is proud to be part of & to have shared in envisioning with because the fight for safe & dignified housing means EVERYONE deserves to live somewhere with autonomy & community - 2 things that always rise to the top of our housing surveys on the streets, & 2 things that prisons & ICE detention centers rob from us.

TONIGHT ONLY - the Revolution will be Televised!

Join us for dinner, a film screening & panel discussion at the SIE FilmCenter (2150 E Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80206). Try home-cooked foods & buy art from directly impacted vendors. Tickets sell for a suggested donation of $15 (no one will be turned away for a lack of funds).

5pm: Vendors & happy hour
6:30pm: Film screening
8:30pm: Panel discussion

“And Water Brings Tomorrow” is a documentary following formerly incarcerated leaders as they work to close prisons & reimagine what safety means. Through changing landscapes & transformed cells, the film asks: what new worlds can we build beyond mass incarceration?

Man shares how park rangers forced him and a handful of other houseless people to get out of a park under a bridge on Sunday this week in the rain in the middle of the afternoon. The rangers gave no reason for why they had to move from a public park in the day, just to leave. They all were forced into the rain and got wet…with nowhere to go.

Man shares incidents of blatant houseless discrimination. One where police kicked him off of the light rail stop while waiting for a train and made him lose his property just for being houseless. Another where police kicked him out of a laundry mat where he was paying to do his laundry. He speaks to how cops can just say the words “private property” and think that justifies all.

Man shares how police slashed his tent in the middle of the night about a month ago in front of Samaritan house on the sidewalk while he was sleeping in it. He also shares how police peed on his sleeping bag with him it in. And he shares about nightly dealing with police or security moving him along for sleeping on sidewalks or alleys. This man is in a power wheelchair and has to navigate all this in a wheelchair. He lost housing of no fault of his own…and now he faces this…
