The following post came from a fellow real estate agent (Erica Hogue Lupori) and I just had to share!!
HOAs are fascinating little governments. My little neighborhood tow just cost me $540, and a couple hours at the impound lot. My transgression- I parked in a space in my own neighborhood for the night, instead of my garage. I gave up the garage because my company has a much nicer car than mine. No good deed… as they say…
You buy or rent a home thinking you’ve secured shelter, and then discover you’ve actually moved into a tiny sovereign nation with its own constitution, judiciary, parking ministry and a deeply held position on where your trash cans may be visible from the street.
There are rules about cars. Rules about guests. Rules about paint. Rules about plants. Rules governing the precise number of hours an inanimate object may remain in one location before becoming a matter of public concern.
Somewhere, at this very moment, an HOA board member is looking through a window thinking, That wreath has been up three days too long.
And God help you if you park incorrectly.
Your car doesn’t get a warning. Your car gets extradited.
I’m becoming convinced HOAs were invented because regular American government simply wasn’t providing enough opportunities to get in trouble.
Anyway, I know I’m not alone.
Tell me your best HOA story. I want petty violations, mysterious fines, trash-can scandals, rogue garden gnomes and parking crimes. The more ridiculous, the better. 😂
