Beating a press in basketball is a team effort. We have to have a plan, we have to know the plan, and we have to have the skills and will to execute the plan. When everybody moves and works together, beating a press and finishing with a lay-up is one of the most beautiful things in basketball. But when everybody isn’t on the same page, the press can quickly break a team down.

OBEDIENCE is key, and what makes it even tougher is that you have to have OBEDIENCE in the middle of a storm when you are facing a press.

OBEDIENCE is when someone listens well to authority, and when you do what you are told and instructed to do.

OBEDIENCE to God can be similar. OBEDIENCE to God always brings blessing. The Lord’s simple requests often serve as stepping-stones to life’s most wonderful blessings. WE have to be willing and able to listen and follow his instructions.

Even the great Michael Jordan said there were a lot of doubters when he was trying to pick schools, but his dad pushed him to go to North Carolina. It's important to have people in our corner who believe in us more than we believe in ourselves sometimes.

When he got to North Carolina, he said that his coach - the legendary Dean Smith - was hard and demanding.

Only 4 freshman had ever started at North Carolina, so his goal was just to try to earn some minutes and make an impact. He said:

"I am listening to what the coaches want, and I'm competing my butt off. I'm trying to impress all of them. I'm not trying to con anybody. I'm competing, and I'm trying to earn the highest accolades. I wanted them to know that I listened, that I applied what I was learning, that I worked hard every single day. I wanted them to know I would be the first guy onto the floor and the last one to leave."
