At Breakthrough, we know that reentry support is critical for reducing recidivism (return to incarceration).

Jacob, one of our participants, was able to obtain employment just 4 days after release! Employment remains one of the strongest protective factors against recidivism. Success stories like this are made possible with reentry support.

Governor Polis has a bill on his desk that would support the Department of Corrections as they prepare returning neighbors for release, including providing individuals with valid state IDs—a necessary document for securing housing and employment in many cases.

Check out our previous post for more information on the Reentry Readiness Act and how YOU can help get it signed into law to support people like Jacob as they step into their second chance!

At Breakthrough, we believe people are more than their past. One of the most powerful parts of our work is bringing volunteers directly into correctional facilities to engage with participants firsthand through mock interviews, resume review, encouragement, and support as they prepare for reentry.

On June 9th at Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility, we will conduct Mock Interviews for 70 participants! Just two days later, on June 11th at La Vista Correctional Facility, we will host another 50 participants.

Volunteer registration deadlines are approaching quickly: May 25th [MONDAY] for Arkansas Valley and May 27th [WEDNESDAY] for La Vista.

Our volunteers are truly the “secret sauce” behind this work. Your presence reminds participants that they are cared for, supported, and that there is a community ready to welcome them home.

Will you help us make these the largest volunteer events in Breakthrough history?

‼️DEADLINE EXTENDED!‼️

We still need over 20 volunteers for our Mock Interview event, so we have extended the registration deadline until:

🗓️ MONDAY, May 25th

See details below:

Sign up closes MONDAY for one of the largest volunteer events in Breakthrough’s history — and we need your help!

On June 9th at Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility, we will conduct Mock Interviews for 70 participants! As always, our goal is to maintain a 1:1 volunteer-to-participant ratio to ensure every participant receives individualized support, encouragement, and attention.

Right now, we only have 50 of our 70 volunteer spots filled for Arkansas Valley — so we need your help filling these rooms with encouragement, support, and community.

Sign up closes MONDAY, May 25th.

This is also a wonderful opportunity to bring friends, colleagues, or team members with you — increasing both your impact and our numbers.

Breakthrough is preparing for two of the largest volunteer events in our organization’s history — and we need your help to make the events as impactful as they can be.

On June 9th at Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility, we will conduct Mock Interviews for 70 participants! Volunteer registration deadlines are also approaching quickly: May 25th [MONDAY] for Arkansas Valley and May 27th [WEDNESDAY] for La Vista.

We are proud to support the Reentry Readiness Act (HB26-1256), a bill that would help released individuals with their transition and play an important role in reducing recidivism (return to incarceration).

The Reentry Readiness Act would strengthen the Department of Corrections’ ability to support individuals transitioning out of custody by helping them secure essential identification documents, including state IDs, and providing a minimum $100 release allowance free from deductions.

A valid ID is not a luxury—it is a necessity. Without one, people face immediate barriers to employment, housing, healthcare, and stability. Employment remains one of the strongest protective factors against recidivism, and access to identification is often the very first step toward maintaining freedom and building a successful reentry journey.

To make this real, Governor Polis needs to say YES and sign it into law! You can help by calling (or emailing) Governor Polis to ask him to make this bill a law.

What is a Breakthrough Moment?

It is a point in time when our participants let go of the anchors that have been holding them back and constricting their worldviews. The Breakthrough Moment is powerful. During quiet reflection, at an event, in the midst of a conversation, or upon entering the Breakthrough classroom, our participants experience this transformation and make strides in their growth. The Moment is different for everyone, but its impact is always profound.

We’re honored to facilitate moments like this. Want to get involved? Volunteer with us!

We are proud to support the Reentry Readiness Act (HB26-1256), a bill that would help released individuals with their transition and play an important role in reducing recidivism (return to incarceration).

The Reentry Readiness Act would support the Department of Corrections as they furnish an individual being discharged from the department's custody with a release allowance of at least $100, free of any deductions, and assist returning neighbors nearing release from custody in securing necessary identification documents like state IDs.

✅ To make this real, the Senate needs to vote YES! You can help by calling (or emailing) your Senators before May 13 to ask them to vote in favor. Check the last two slides for their contact info.

🚨 Volunteers Needed 🚨 Ready to make a real impact?

Sign-up deadlines for our June events at Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility and La Vista Correctional Facility are quickly approaching—and these are two of our largest cohorts yet, with 70 participants at AVCF and 50 at LVCF.

To create the kind of meaningful, high-quality experience our participants deserve, we’re aiming for a 1:1 volunteer-to-participant ratio—and we can’t do it without you.

Show up, connect, and be part of something powerful. 💛

Mock Interview events help our participants prepare for reentry by providing a constructive space to where they develop interview skills, receive resume feedback, and build confidence in their potential in the workforce.

Don’t miss your chance to make a change! Sign up here: https://timetobreakthrough.org/get-involved/
