In many communities across Africa, women carry the daily responsibility of securing safe water for their families. When clean water sources are not available, they are often forced to purchase charcoal or spend hours foraging for wood to boil and purify water.

This practice comes at a high cost.

The time burden falls heavily on women and girls, limiting opportunities for education and income generation.

Environmentally, the demand for firewood contributes to deforestation and the loss of vital ecosystems.

No school is too small. After securing our boat, our team hiked 45 minutes into the lush hills of the Peruvian Amazon alongside our locally rooted partner, . High above the river, this village, founded decades ago for its agricultural promise, welcomed us with fresh coconuts.

At the top, we reached a one room schoolhouse with just three students. A place many organizations might overlook, but not us. Because every child deserves access to clean water, and every student deserves the chance to focus, learn, and thrive. We worked side by side with the community, teaching families how to assemble, use, and maintain them for the long term.

Before our hike back to the river, we shared homemade chicken soup together, a simple and powerful reminder of why this work matters. Together we are mighty.

On our way back from a community health workshop, we spotted a small school tucked into the hillside and decided to stop in. The teachers were in a meeting, but we started talking with a few people about student health and access to clean water.

As the conversation unfolded, we realized we had enough water filter systems with us for every classroom. So we went for it and turned the moment into a hands-on water workshop right then and there.

The best part was looking up at the chalkboard and seeing a lesson on fungi, bacteria, and parasites already written out. It felt like everything had lined up perfectly in a way you just can’t plan.

Last year, one of our volunteers carried Mighty Water’s mission from Nepal to the heart of the Amazon, deep near Manaus, Brazil. In November, Larry traveled by boat and foot to reach hundreds of families in some of the most remote villages, where clean water isn’t a given—it’s a daily challenge.

As a Mighty Ambassador, Larry didn’t just share technology. He led hands-on water workshops that empower families with practical tools to prevent waterborne illness and protect their children’s health. These workshops have proven effective around the world, and in the Amazon, they are already changing lives.
