I was so honored to represent Rotary Club of Denton at this wonderful event in Costa Rica. I look forward to continuing to work with them on the project to deliver 520 wheelchairs to people in Costa Rica in May 2027. Pura Vida!

The Rotary Club Belén would like to sincerely thank everyone who attended our event on June 9, 2026.

We were especially pleased to welcome representatives from several Rotary clubs across Costa Rica. The exchange of ideas, fellowship, and shared commitment to service continue to strengthen our Rotary family.

It was also wonderful to host many guests who are not Rotarians. Events like these provide an excellent opportunity to showcase our projects, our work, and the values of Rotary International while connecting with the broader community.

One of the highlights of the event was the recognition of our fellow Rotarian Stéphane Dähler, who received the Paul Harris Fellow +1 distinction. Over the past 14 months, Stéphane has brought new ideas, initiated meaningful projects, and contributed significantly to the growth and impact of our club.

In his acceptance remarks, Stéphane emphasized that this recognition does not belong to him alone. Rather, it belongs to the entire Rotary Club Belén and to his family, whose support has been essential throughout this journey. The achievements of the past months are the result of teamwork, friendship, and a shared commitment to service.

We thank all members, guests, friends, and sponsors for their presence and support.

Congratulations to Rotarian Brownie Stonecipher for being recognized as Distinguished Rotarian of the Year, and Rotarian Amber Briggle as Rotarian of the Year! Special honors go to John Williams for being selected as this year's Brock Award recipient – our club's highest honor given to a non-Rotarian!

Did you know that Texas ranks 43rd in funding for public schools and 50th in funding for mental health? Fully 50% of students in Texas are considered high risk of dropping out before graduating high school!

The #1 reason students say that they stay in school is because they have at least one adult there that cares for them. Thats why Communities In Schools of North Texas is so vital to the success of these students! ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the students they served last year STAYED IN SCHOOL! Talk about LASTING, generational, positive change!

Thank you, Dr Linsey Schafer, for being our speaker today and sharing the impact of CISNT! Your organization is so important and we are grateful to you and everyone involved!

Because of the generosity of our community and the dedication of the Rotary Club of Denton, we are proud to share that this year, we were able to distribute:
📖 2,397 books to incoming Denton ISD kindergarten and prek students across 17 elementary campuses and
👶 200 books to families in the NICU at Texas Health

That brings our three-year total to an amazing 9,094 books 🎉distributed throughout our community!

This project would not be possible without the support of our 87 donors, including local businesses, organizations, and individuals who believe in the power of literacy and the importance of giving every child the opportunity to build a love of reading from the very beginning.

Every book placed into a child’s hands is more than just pages and pictures—it is an investment in education, imagination, confidence, and the future of our community. Research continues to show that children with books at home are more likely to succeed academically, graduate, and become lifelong learners.

We are incredibly proud of everyone who continues to make this project grow year after year. Together, we are helping pave the Road to Reading for thousands of children across Denton.

Thank you, Denton, for believing in this mission and for helping us make a lasting impact—one book at a time. 📚✨

When rotarian Alana Presley Taylor went to pick up her kids from school one hot, August afternoon, she began to wonder how or if that heat might also affect her children's education.

That simple question became central to her PhD research, which she presented to our club last week. How hot do playgrounds get? Do schools with poorer ventilation and HVAC systems also have poorer learning outcomes? Who is responsible for designing and paying for shade structures – the school district, the state, the PTA, or someone else? And what can we as a community do to lower the heat across Denton to make it easier for *everyone* to live and work here?

Thank you, Alana, for bringing us such a fascinating, relevant, and important topic during our meeting last week. We thoroughly enjoyed your presentation and the thoughtful conversation that followed!
