Saturdays nights at the Frisco location is game time for the United Through Hope members.

Time for: Building connections. Building communication skills. Building memories. Building rapport. Building table talk skills. Building situational awareness and general stamina and attentiveness.

Playing board & card games provides numerous benefits no matter if it’s a classic game like Yahtzee or slapjack. Or if it’s a new game like Cards Against Humanities Family version or the Taco, Goat, Cheese, Pizza game.

Just want to give a special thank you to this Amazing cashier at the McDonalds located at Preston & Main St in Frisco because he was awesome!!!! Just an all around great person! Kind, sweet, patient, and so attentive. He was delighted to see our group come in yesterday 6/6 and chatted with them and was all smiles. Every order came out correctly and he helped them manage the cash part and etiquette with someone who just had great soft skills. This is customer service!!

Great flexibility shown by the United Through Hope members today as they had to pivot early this morning on where their social meetup event was to be held due to storms. They pivoted well and were engaged at bowling, mini golf, and laser tag. Great chatting and giving excellent support as they played!

Our Denton location has served United Through Hope well over the last 15 years but since last June the powers above have indicated to us it is time to downsize. Looking for someone who will enjoy the building as much as we have. It’s beautifull big backyard has provided our members with many wonderful moments and helped our business survive through Covid when everyone was scared to be together. Inside, the building is fully renovated and as our members like to say “looks gorgeous” and has ample space for multiple offices or meeting rooms.

Could be used as a daycare, church, or microschool. Still set up inside like a house so turning back into a residential is a possibility too!

The staff at Frisco’s Chick Fil A are always so chipper! They don’t even blink when our group comes in and even when there’s 20 of us they still so smoothly go through the questions to each UTH member. On the flip side the UTH members are seeing great customer service and also they are learning to respect the hard working staff. Simple little acts of thoughtfulness like unfolding your bills, having your order already decided upon, and cleaning up your space when done eating are ways the UTH members are learning to be socially aware of how their choices affect others.

The first real heat (it hit 86 but felt like 94 with the humidity and no clouds) didn’t stop the United Through Hope members from getting out to their local Preston Manor park to shoot some hoops and have nerf battles and play hide and seek on the last weekend of May!

Party time because school is now out and the United Through Hope members sure did! They enjoyed making color changing drinks with sprite as the base and then pouring in grenadine to make it red or adding in pink or blue cotton candy to the clear sprite. Delicious was the unanimous decision.

Then they put on the tunes and danced! Freeze dances, group dancing, and costume fun! Loved the storm trooper doing the national anthem and then when 15 members joined in for the Macarena.

Sometimes what we think shouldn’t be a big deal ends of being a huge feat to overcome due to emotional baggage we carry.

An example of that happened in the teen game night. The card game Taco, Goat, Cheese, Pizza is easy -slap on a certain card and say the correct name that comes up (like cheese). BUT for one member who was mercifully teased for years at school about “cheese effect” (from Diary of a Wimpy Kid) the game became quite emotional to the point he couldn’t play it.

No one knew why but a staff, Dr. Harrier, figured it out and slowly coached him through the emotions it brought up to bring it back to “this is a game with people who haven’t tried to hurt you.” He calmed down and was able have fun the rest of the evening.

The United Through Hope members clearly enjoyed their time at Urban Air Southlake hanging out with their buds on all the attractions BUT the UTH staff was the most impressed with how they showed off their pivoting skills! No where on the website or anything sent to Dr. Harrier indicated they were cashless now! Yikes when 27 hungry kids suddenly need to eat and almost everyone has cash and the facility can’t take it. It was pivot time!

Dr. Harrier ran that credit card many times over (scary it never got hit for fraud) and helped the kids make change to ti pay Dr Harrier but also so they still had money for later on that evening should they need it.

The UTH members were so patient with Dr. Harrier as she navigated all the lunch time craziness for them. They all got their food and rolled with the delays with an abounding amount of patience. Go future leaders!!!
