Staff Spotlight: Jack Topham
Co-Founder/Director of Finance and Administration

Jack is often the first person you’ll get to talk to when you call the office. He’ll take the time to listen and understand your needs and will go over our different programs so you can make the best decision. If we can’t help you, he’ll try to direct you to the right source and provide you with all the information you need about service dogs in general. He keeps track of new trends in the service dog world and a list of all the other service dog organizations that he can refer people to. Every day of the week, he responds to over 30 inquiries with patience and understanding.

Jack is in charge of finances and administration. He also provides customer support and services. He is a stickler when it comes to processes and keeping the organization on the right path and in good standing.

He has been involved in service dog training since 2009 and is always looking for new ways to help both the people and the dogs.

With his office wide open to any person walking through the door, Jack is often sharing his space with the office cat, Marvin. Marvin loves to make messes with Jack’s piles of important documents or jump on his computer.

Let's take a moment to revisit the Fort Stanton nurses to celebrate Women's History Month.

The Cadet Nurse Corp program began service in facilities and communities across the United States and abroad with more than thirty thousand nurses completing training by 1945, with more to come. Many of these nurses remained in the same facilities they trained at, which fulfilled the Corp’s mission of ending the nurse shortage on the home-front; however, more than half of graduated nurses applied to serve in the armed forces. The end of World War II saw a limited number of applicants make it as nursing officers. Despite this, over thirty-three thousand Cadet Nurse Corp graduates would go on to serve in federal facilities, including those operated by the Army and Navy, the Veterans’ Administration, The U.S. Public Health Service, and the Office of Indian Affairs. On Thanksgiving at 11 p.m., David left his family at home and came in to help the on-call engineer with an electrical alarm in one of the operating rooms. Not only did David come in on Thanksgiving to save the day for the Surgery Department, he also brought a whole rack of just-smoked, fall-off-the-bones tender ribs. Now, that's how to earn a Heart Pin!
