North Star of Texas - a National Writing Project Site

North Star of Texas - a National Writing Project Site We believe that well informed and passionate educators are the key to improving our schools.

We are one of 200 local sites of the National Writing Project, a network of teachers, administrators, and professors who focus on improving the teaching of writing and learning throughout North Texas. We focus on supporting teachers as they improve their writing instruction, but our ultimate goal is to invite learners of all ages to be lifelong readers and writers. We believe in the power of books

to change people’s lives, but we also know it is critical for all of us to improve our use of new technologies–to participate thoughtfully and effectively in global communities. To accomplish this, the North Star of Texas Writing Project sponsors literacy events and professional development activities for both educators and students.

Information went out about a week ago to cancel it but wanted to follow up and make sure it was posted.
We hope to reschedule very soon!

NSTWP Teacher Consultants had a fabulous writing retreat in Granbury over the weekend. We wrote, we conferred, we ate, we played, we talked and talked and talked. Always sharing our thoughts, our passions, and our responsibilities, everyone left feeling productive, refreshed, and accomplished. Our writing ranges across the genres - Professional - two middle school teachers, one African-American and one Caucasian, join together to plan difficult conversations with students around Lives Matter; Memoir - A Tree Grows in Beebee; Poetry - I'm Not That Professor and The Smells of My Life; stories for children - a stuffed lamb who just wants to belong but loses its first child and then survives Katrina to find its way home; Life - adjusting to life when a daughter leaves home and calling the mayor and city hall to support the families and students already in DISD before you seek to bring others here. We are passionate about teaching and learning. We are passionate about literacy. We are passionate about equity and justice. We are the North Star of Texas Writing Project.
