Good morning friends and family of the Denton ffa, this week we are kicking off a FUN-draiser. We will be out and about this week selling packs of watermelon seeds. Get your plants started, and next fall when school starts up we are going to have a “biggest melon” contest, paired with watermelon eating contests and seed spitting contests. Buying the seeds enters you in the biggest melon contest. Find your favorite ffa member and buy your seeds this week, they will need to be in the ground by May 1st to make it in time for the contest. Packets are $25 for 5 seeds, or $50 for 15. This is our first year trying this so let’s make it a success!

Here is a big shout out to our junior high students rocking it at state convention in the Montana farm bureau speaking contest. Students were tasked with preparing a 2.5-4 minute speech about “Bridging the Gap between producers and consumers” members Caden Bronec, Mercedez Barber, Ridge Stonehocker, and Bentley Obergfell all wrote, memorized, and presented. There were 18 competitors from across the state, 4-h and ffa members from 7th-9th grade competed against each other and the top 5 were announced yesterday. We are happy to announce that Mercedez placed 2nd, and Bentley placed 5th. Big thank you to Montana Farm Bureau for hosting this contest again.

I love teaching for the ah-ha moment when a student gets a concept or idea when you get through that threshold of I can’t do this, to ah-ha.

Congrats to our 3 seniors! The state ffa degree is the highest degree the Montana ffa can bestow on a member. Students are judge on their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), through what they learned, money earned, time invested, and various benchmarks set by the state association. These 3 members are exemplary examples of what it means to be an ffa member. Congratulations again, Caitlyn, Christine, and Jacob!
