LAST CALL! Character Self-Portraits

If you haven't yet seen the Greater Denton Arts Center's exhibition of our guild challenge: Character Self-Portraits, make some time to stop by! The exhibition runs thru next Sat. (Sept 5)

Bring your quilty admirers!!
Our guild members have had the chance to see the exhibition; the portraits are all hanging around the room where we have our monthly general meeting. But maybe you'd like a little more personal time to see your work (and the work of your fellow guild members). Bring your friends/family - they can see your art on display!

The exhibition is in Festival Hall - the big, main event room where we hold our monthly guild meetings. Just remember - Saturday, Sept 5, is the last day of the exhibit!

Alternative Gift Fair

The Alternative Gift Fair is one of our most important annual fundraisers.Throughout the year, guild members create a variety of fun and popular handmade items that will be sold at our booth during this fall’s event.

We have monthly sew days at the Green Valley School, on the FIRST TUESDAY of each month from 10-3. Please bring $5 to donate to the Green ValleySchool in appreciation for allowing us to use the facility. This month, at the August sew day, our AGF team sorted and priced the items already finished -here's Dawn with four large boxes of items ready to go!

Join us on Sept 1 for the next AGF Sew Day! For more information, contact Dawn or Nonie!

Drop off these items throughout the year at each Guild meeting.

Dawn has created a great online sign-up form for booth volunteers at the fair, and that form is now live. There are slots available on all three days - Friday, Saturday and Sunday Nov. 6-8: set-up, tear-down and manning the booth. Volunteer slots are typically 2 hours long - you're welcome to sign up for more than one! It's fun, and you'll also have plenty of time to shop around the other wonderful booths before or after your shift. Find the link here:

August 18, 2026 DQG Meeting
Charles Cameron, A Curious Quilter’s Trunk Show
I’m a curious modern quilter. In this trunk show I’ll share with you some of my favorite quilts and the inspiration behind their design and construction.

I’ll tell you the story of my first quilt: one that I made by accident, and the lessons that I learned by not knowing what I was doing. We’ll explore my love of cross blocks, constructed as a modified 9-patch, and the movement and sparkle that can be created by ‘tilting’ them, and playing with color and color value placement in their different positions. Finally, I share quilts inspired by a curiosity to explore other quilting techniques: improv, foundation paper piecing, and pixilation.

I hope you’ll be inspired to dive deep into a favorite quilt block of you own or try a new quilting technique that you have not yet explored.

Aug 19 Workshop - Charles Cameron
Tilted Tiles: An introduction to semi-improv techniques

‘Semi-improv’ is a technique for those who want the look and feel of improv, but who aren’t quite ready to give up their rulers.
The workshop will kick off with a detailed overview of the pattern to orient the participants. Hands-on instruction will be provided for each step of the Tilted Tiles quilt pattern and classroom time will be allowed for participants to progress toward making a 36” x 36” wall handing or 18” x 72” table runner of your own.

The pattern uses efficient, traditional piecing techniques, and multiple block sizes, each with their own choose-your-own-adventure-style instructions for the creation of a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

Blocks are made from modular subunits which are mixed-and-matched in interesting color and value combinations to create visual interest and flow. The subunits can be assembled in various orientations and sewn together in numerous configurations. The blocks are constructed larger than required using traditional piecing techniques, then trimmed with a ruler, improv-style to give each block a ‘tilted’ or ‘wonky’ look which adds variety and movement to the assembled quit top.

$60 + $15 Etsy PDF pattern download
Workshop instruction will be sent when you sign up.
There is fabric-cutting homework before the workshop.

November 17, 2026 is Leo Ransom.
Journey of an Art Quilter

Leo will discuss his art journey from start to current and display past and present art quilts.

"I am an artist, teacher and pattern creator. I have been quilting since 1998 and designing art quilts since 2012. I learned piecing techniques in high school, but truly rediscovered my passion for quilitng in 1998. I stumbled upon art quilting in 2011, and found a true love. I am inspired by uniqueness in physical appearance and the extreme use of color in creating art quilts. I love the realness of the pieces, even though they are not the true colors."
