The Rotary Club of Dennison lost an amazing and very devoted member last week. Marti J. Wells was laid to rest today, she will be missed beyond imagination. Marti chaired our scholarship program for a number of years. The club decided to establish a scholarship in Marti’s name to which we committed to establishing the Marti J. Wells Healthcare Scholarship. Marti was a Registered Nurse having devoted much of her life to her nursing career and caring for people. Marti’s family asked that contributions be made in her memory to her church (Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Dennison) or to the Dennison Rotary Club. As I attended the funeral today, many people asked where to mail a donation in Marti’s honor. The contributions can be mailed to: Dennison Rotary Club, P.O. Box 234, Dennison, OH 44621. The donations will be used to fund the scholarship in her honor. Marti had a deep love for her friends and family as well as for her church and Rotary, to which she was a devoted member of our Rotary Family. The attached photo was taken two years ago when the club celebrated its 100th anniversary, Marti was given the honor of being named the ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR. As I presented a pin to her, she was moved to tears. We love you Marti, may you rest in peace as you enjoy your Heavenly reward.

The Dennison Club awarded two scholarships to Claymont Students last evening. Every student that applies are deserving, the selection process is extremely difficult as a result of the qualifications that they present in their applications. Being a service organization, service is an important aspect of the selection process along with many other factors, such as academics, need, school activities, etc. This year, the winners are Abbey Lane Devore, she is the recipient of the Donald E. Plotner memorial Scholarship. Don, known by many as Ziggy, established the scholarship program during his presidency in 1988. The Winner of the Robert F. Michels Service Above Self scholarship was Zane Kuczirka. Service Above Self is the motto of Rotary International. The Dennison Rotary club wish to congratulate our scholarship recipients and all seniors, wishing them all the best in their future endeavors.

Delayed Blood Profile Results: Status and Response
We have received numerous reports from participants indicating that they have not yet received their blood profile results from the April 11 screening. The Dennison Rotary Club has reached out to Quest Diagnostics several times in an effort to resolve this issue, but the responses have not been satisfactory. Despite these challenges, we have been working persistently with our patrons to ensure that everyone receives their results.
After sending an email to all individuals who registered through our portal and still receiving reports of missing results, we have decided to take further action. We are now printing and mailing physical copies of the blood profile reports to every participant. All reports for the April 11, 2026, blood profile event have been mailed, with the final batch sent out today, Tuesday, May 5. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience, as results are typically received within one week. Please understand that the delivery of results by Quest Diagnostics is outside our direct control, but we are committed to resolving this matter for our patrons.
Completing a large mailing requires significant effort, even with seemingly small tasks such as placing stamps on envelopes. To help manage this workload, we enlisted the assistance of future Rotarians. Two young helpers were eager to contribute and performed their tasks exceptionally well. It is truly heartwarming to involve children in community service, just as I did with my own children when they were young. This experience not only gives them a sense of accomplishment but also instills in them the importance of serving the community.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Kyrstin and Mackenzie for their valuable help. Special thanks also go to my daughter, Amanda Brindley, for her dedication in addressing many of the envelopes late into the night.
If you have any concerns or need to discuss a problem, please feel free to call us at 740-229-7575. You may leave a message, and as a volunteer organization, we will return your call as soon as possible.
We thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work to resolve this issue.

Our Meeting this evening Showcased Angela Henary who gave a program explaining many of the events and opportunities of the Wilderness Center. literature and newsletters were also distributed explaining activities which include Hiking, native plant sale, Backyard Habitats, Night Hikes, Astronomy, Educational programs and the Foxfield Conservation Cemetery. The Wilderness Center is definitely a place worthy of a visit for families and individuals. There are a number of clubs that individuals can participate in, such as Photography , Wood Carving and more. It is also worthy of a donation to help keep the Wilderness Center and its programs going. Visit the Wilderness Center online to explore the activities that you may be interested in. www.wildernesscenter.org

This post is a BIG THANK YOU to many individuals and entities who all worked together to make great things happen. It is wonderful, heartwarming, and meaningful to see people working together to reach a common goal. What an honor it was for our community to host part of Ohio’s celebration of our Nation’s Semi quincentennial. Everyone involved deserves praise and recognition for their efforts in bringing this event to a very successful fruition. Many have no idea of the amount of work, planning, phone calls, and emails behind the scenes work that it takes to make an event like this happen. The planning was three years in the making. Then there is the expense to make it all happen. We can also be thankful for those who donated to the cause, both in kind and in dollars, on top of the expense that was actually paid through the efforts of those who helped to host and organize the event. I could go on, but I am sure you get the point.
On behalf of the Rotary Club of Dennison, I would like to extend a special thank you to those who assisted in our club’s efforts of this celebration.
As part of the celebration, it was our goal to make the bell on top of the Ohio Bicentennial Archway ring again. The previous mechanism that made the bell ring had fallen into disrepair over the years. We contacted the Verdin Bell Company for an assessment of the project and a quote. The installation of the mechanism to make it ring was in excess of $16,000. The bell was transported to the Verdin Foundry in Cincinnati where the mechanism was installed and the bell was refinished, it was then all returned back to us five months later completed and ready for installation. The club committed to more than half of the cost, the Tuscarawas County Community Foundation and the Village of Dennison generously granted us additional funds that made the project possible, and we also had one private individual give us a donation. Note, tax dollars were not used to fund this project; the village was granted the funds from a local non-profit, we are eternally grateful for their financial support.
Then came the more difficult part: the removal of the bell, reworking the housing to accommodate the bell when re-installed, rewiring, and many other little details necessary to bring the project to fruition. Greg Kimble and the Kimble Company made that all happen. The lift, the crane, metal work, repainting, wiring, and manpower—how can we EVER express our appreciation for all that they did to assist in making the bell ring? Without their assistance, we could not have completed the project due to the additional expense.
The monument also needed some work on some of the mortar that was failing, Todd Bonvechio donated his labor, time, and materials to do the necessary work, we wish to thank him for his generosity.
New placards were installed, giving a bit of history of the Archway project. We thank Mo and Kelly Dallas who arranged for the placards to be made. We hope to install a brass plaque to the monument in the future, giving additional details.
Interestingly, the Verdin technician informed us that he is only aware of the location of four of the state bicentennial bells that were cast for the 2003 State of Ohio centennial celebration, a bell was cast in each of the state’s 88 counties. We are so thankful and appreciative that the Tuscarawas County bell is here on top of our monument.
While the lift was here, we asked if Greg Kimble and his crew could install the new sign that was made for our Rotary Building. The sign was heavy and needed significant support; they agreed and made that happen as well. This was an important aspect for our club as our Clubhouse is located in the midst of the 250th celebration and was used to display Moniker railway art for those attending the festivities to view.
Thank you to Steve Mitchell and his company, U.S.P. Sandblasting, Painting and Graphics for making the sign. It is a beautiful addition to our building, and we can’t thank Steve and his company enough for what they did.
I certainly hope that I did not miss thanking anyone on behalf of the Dennison Rotary Club’s involvement. We GREATLY appreciate everyone who assisted in any way. FANTASTIC job by everyone. It is truly inspiring to see a project come to a successful completion. The PRIDE shown by all of our residents who decorated their homes and assisted in many ways. Let’s keep the motivation going! Thank you Everyone!
