A heartfelt thank you to St. Amant High School! ❤️

On September 18, the anniversary of Remy’s passing, St. Amant High School held a fundraiser for the Remy Hidalgo Foundation, donating all proceeds from that night’s program book to our foundation.
Last night, we were invited to attend the JV game between St. Amant and Denham Springs, where we were honored to receive the check.
I am truly grateful for the thoughtfulness and generosity shown to our foundation and for choosing to honor Remy in such a meaningful way.
Thank you to everyone at St. Amant High School who made this possible. From the bottom of my heart, I cannot thank you enough for remembering Remy and helping us continue his legacy.

Today, I want you to take a minute and think about Remy.

Not just how we lost him.
Not just the tragedy of September 18, 2020.
But who he was.

Remy never met a stranger. He could walk into a room and leave knowing everyone in it. He had a smile that could light up a room and a personality that was impossible to forget.

He was funny, loving, and full of life. He loved his family fiercely. He loved his friends. He loved football. He loved being around people.

He had a heart that was bigger than most. If you needed him, he was there. He had a way of making people feel included, loved, and like they mattered.

He was a son. A brother. A grandson. A friend. A teammate.

And to me, he was my son.

Those are the things I want people to remember.

Because the Remy Hidalgo Foundation isn’t just about what happened to him. It’s about who he was. It’s about taking everything Remy was — his heart, his love for people, his energy, his willingness to help — and carrying that forward.

I can’t change what happened
I can’t get my son back.
But I can make sure his name continues to mean something.

I can tell his story.
I can educate.
I can put lifesaving equipment into schools.
I can speak up when athletes aren’t being protected.
And I can keep fighting so another mother doesn’t have to walk out of a hospital without her child.

That is Remy’s legacy.

So today, please take a minute.

Think about his smile.
Think about his laugh.
Think about #77.
Think about the boy who never met a stranger.

Say his name. Remember Remy.

Six years later, he is still loved.
He is still missed.
And he is still making a difference.

Remy’s legacy lives on. 💜💛

The Remy Hidalgo Foundation is so incredibly thankful for athletic trainers like Hayley. ❤️

People may not always realize just how important an athletic trainer is on the sidelines. They are there watching, listening, recognizing the warning signs, and knowing exactly what to do when seconds matter.

When an athlete is in trouble, having someone there who is trained and prepared can make all the difference.

We are so grateful for the athletic trainers who take protecting our kids seriously, who speak up, who are prepared, and who refuse to take chances with their safety.

Thank you, Hayley, for being there for our athletes. Your dedication means more than you know. 🩷

‼️If you have not read or shared my other post, please take a minute to read and share this one.‼️

I have been hearing more and more stories from across Louisiana about The Remy Hidalgo Law not being followed when it comes to protecting our athletes.

And as Remy’s mom, this hurts in a way that is hard to explain.

Because I know what can happen.

I know what it feels like to send your child to football practice and never get the chance to bring him home.

I know what it feels like to sit in a hospital and pray with everything inside of you that your child will make it.

And I know what it feels like to walk out of that hospital without him.

Remy should be 22 years old today.

Instead, I have his pictures. His memories. His jersey. His number 77.

And a lifetime without my son.

That is why I will never stop talking about heat safety.

Nothing—not a winning record, not a game, not a championship, not one more practice—is worth risking a child’s life.

Coaches, I am asking you to please listen.

If you know conditions are unsafe, they should NOT be practicing.

And if your athletic trainer—who is there for a reason—is telling you it is not safe, LISTEN. These protocols were put in place for a reason. They exist because heat illness can become life-threatening in a matter of minutes.

I have lived every parent’s worst nightmare.

Does losing a child have to be the lesson?

Does my story not tell you that this can happen to ANYONE?

Remy was a son. A brother. A friend. A football player. A kid who went to practice one day and never came home.

I will never stop telling his story because I refuse to let what happened to Remy be in vain.

Listen to your athletic trainers.
Listen when conditions are telling you it is no longer safe.

Your athletic trainer is there for a reason. They are there to help protect these athletes. If they tell you it is unsafe, please listen to them.

There is nothing weak about stopping practice. There is nothing wrong with putting safety before a game.

There is no victory worth losing a child.

These are NOT guidelines, this is a law and exist for a reason.

Because it can happen.

It happened to my son.

Remy wasn’t supposed to become a story. He was supposed to come home from practice.

Parents, please ask questions.

Ask your school what they are doing to protect your child. Ask if they are following the Remy Hidalgo Law. Ask about the heat conditions, the emergency plan, the athletic trainer, the cold-water immersion tub and how quickly your child could be cooled if something went wrong.

And coaches, please remember what is standing in front of you.

Those aren’t just athletes. They are someone’s babies.

Someone’s son.
Someone’s daughter.
Someone’s whole world.

I can’t bring Remy back.

But I can keep telling his story. I can keep fighting. And I can keep asking every person who has the responsibility of protecting these kids to please listen before it’s too late.

Because I would give anything to have one more chance to protect my son.

No mother should ever have to walk out of a hospital without her child.

Please help me make sure another mother never has to.

Another donation, another school taking steps to keep their athletes safe. 🏈

Today, The Remy Hidalgo Foundation donated a cold water immersion tub and wet bulb globe thermometer to Central High School to help protect their athletes from exertional heat illness.

Thank you to Athletic Trainer Kacey Calabro for caring so deeply about the safety of these athletes and for making sure they have the equipment they need when every second matters.

September is a very hard month for me. It’s the month I lost Remy, to exertional heat stroke while he was doing what he loved—playing football. As we approach another anniversary of his passing, the pain is still very real. But so is the purpose behind everything we do.

What started from the worst moment of my life has turned into a mission to help protect other athletes and families from experiencing the same heartbreak.

Every cold tub, every WBGT, every conversation and every school we reach is another piece of Remy’s legacy.

We will keep going. We will keep educating. We will keep fighting to make sure no family has to hear the words I heard.

As we continue this mission, please remember to donate if you can. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps us continue putting lifesaving equipment into schools and spreading awareness about heat illness.
