To know her was to love her.

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we share the news: our very own Senior Lifter, Addie Latta, has gained her wings after an incredibly impressive 27 day fight.

If you were ever at a meet with her or saw her on the platform, you received nothing less than a great joke and an infectious smile. She was someone who lit up a room the second she walked in. Respected by all of her teammates as a leader, a shoulder to cry on, and an ear to listen, she represented everything we preach within our team.

We know that she will be watching over our team now and forever, just as she always did, one PR at a time.

We love you always, Addie!

I will continue to post this as many times as it takes until we stop seeing this happen. Exertional Heat Stroke (EHS) is 100% preventable and survivable — yet every year, we hear tragic stories of kids losing their lives to it.

Parents: Talk to your child’s coaches. Make sure proper heat safety protocols are in place and that they have the necessary equipment to respond in an emergency.

Kids: Speak up if you’re not feeling well. Your health comes first — always. You should never fear losing your position or facing consequences for being honest about how you feel.

No sport, no game, no title is worth a life. Nothing is more devastating than a parent losing their child to something that could have been prevented.

Doctors said the risk of heat-related illness is especially high during preseason practices, particularly in football, where players wear heavy gear and work out in extreme temperatures. fox13.tv/412MXn1

🟥 Another young athlete lost. A 16-year-old football player collapsed and died after practice in Tennessee this July.

We at the Korey Stringer Institute are heartbroken—and frustrated.
Why? Because exertional heat stroke (EHS) deaths are 100% preventable.

🧊 Cold-water immersion saves lives.
Recently published data show a 100% survival rate in 454 EHS patients when treated promptly and properly.

Yet, every summer, we see avoidable deaths—often football linemen in August. This is the 4th case of EHS in high school since July 1st.

Linemen, due to their size and physical demands, require conditioning programs tailored to their unique needs and risks.

✅ Best practices are clear:
*Heat acclimatization
*Environmental monitoring
*Conditioning and training that matches physical abilities
*Cold-water immersion on-site
*“Cool first, transport second”

🎓 Athletic trainers and coaches must lead the way to make sure workouts match both fitness level and heat conditions.

📢 No AT on-site? Parents, guardians, coaches, school leaders—speak up!
Athletes deserve medical professionals at every practice and game.

Let’s stop the heartbreak.
Let’s protect our athletes.

This time of year never gets easier. It still brings anxiety, especially thinking about the athletes and everyone working in this extreme heat. Every year, we hear far too many heartbreaking stories of young lives lost—tragedies that are completely 100% preventable and survivable
Sending heartfelt prayers to this family. 🙏

His aunt, Kristen Henderson, told FOX13 Monday that he remained in "very, very severe" condition. She said the incident damaged Joshua's liver and kidneys, and doctors found six blood clots in the Memphis teen.

The mother said her son plans to one day play in the NFL and will likely use his experience to spread awareness about the dangers of heatstroke.
