Our second Rotary visit of the week took us to the Tuscaloosa Morning Rotary Club today.

Thanks to President George Lander and Program Chair Michael Ford for hosting us and to the receptive audience for their interest in the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences.

Head of School Laura Eves Bailey and Vice President of Strategic Partnerships Rob Pearson offered an inside perspective on the historic launch of the school last month and the exciting plans for the state-of-the-art campus being built in time for next school year in Demopolis.

ASHS is a tuition-free residential school designed to create a healthcare-focused high school experience that will allow students to graduate ready to enter the workforce to practice in-demand skilled healthcare careers, or to pursue higher education and training.

The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences is proudly tuition-free, but as a boarding school, students are required this first year to have a meal plan at the hosting The University of West Alabama campus in Livingston.

The ASHS Foundation has made a commitment that no student who is accepted will be turned away for lack of funds.

We’re grateful for those who have stepped up, such as the home office of the Alabama Credit Union in Tuscaloosa, which has designated its donation to support a student from Tuscaloosa County.

Handling the ceremonial check presentation were, L to R, ASHS Foundation leaders Rob Pearson and Scott Huffman, and representing the Alabama CU Foundation, Nicole Fulgham, community involvement manager, and Lamar Sims, commercial loan officer.

Proud moments!

🏥 WITNESSES TO HEALTHCARE HISTORY

We were honored to welcome Dr Eric Mackey, Alabama State Superintendent of Schools, and Deputy Superintendent Mrs. Angela Martin for a surprise visit today to the future home of the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences in Demopolis.

After receiving an update from Head of School Laura Eves Bailey and Rob Pearson of the ASHS Foundation, they toured the 10-acre Brasfield & Gorrie construction site, where our academic and residential buildings are taking shape right on schedule for their grand opening a year from now.

Even more exciting? They also learned about the incredible inaugural class of students from throughout Alabama who will make history when ASHS opens its doors on Aug. 13.

“They’re super supportive,” Bailey said after the visit. “They were excited to see firsthand the progress on campus and everything that’s gone into recruiting our first students.”

The countdown is on—and the education in Alabama is getting closer every day! 💙

Even before they start their at ASHS next month, 30 of our students were able to connect with UAB - The University of Alabama at Birmingham Wednesday.
It’s partnerships such as this that make ASHS unique — and put the chance to transform healthcare in Alabama within reach.
