October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

Every October, communities nationwide come together for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) to honor survivors, remember those we have lost, and reaffirm our commitment to creating a future free from abuse.

Domestic violence touches families across every neighborhood, but strength and healing grow when a community stands together. At La Casa, Inc., we provide a safe haven, compassionate care, and vital resources to thousands of individuals and families across southern New Mexico every single year.

Here is how you can join us in taking action this month:

💜 Wear Purple throughout October to show solidarity and spark meaningful conversations.

🕯️ Join Us at Our Candlelight Vigil on Thursday, October 15 (6:00 PM – 7:30 PM at the Mesilla Community Center) to honor survivor courage and remember loved ones.

👕 Visit the Clothesline Project on display at NMSU's Branson Library Atrium all month long to view survivor stories of strength and resilience.

📲 Share Our Content & Helpline so anyone in need knows where to turn for confidential support.

Amplifying Survivor Voices at NMSU for DVAM

We were so honored to be on campus at New Mexico State University to share support and resources with Aggie students during the Clothesline Project!

Hosted by the NMSU Department of Criminal Justice and spearheaded by Dr. Ahram Cho, this powerful, interactive exhibit brings campus-wide awareness to interpersonal, sexual, and domestic violence. Each shirt displayed tells a deeply personal story written by survivors and loved ones, turning statistics into real human experiences, healing, and strength.

Connecting with students, answering questions, and making sure everyone knows where to turn for help is at the heart of what we do. Community partnerships with dedicated educators like Dr. Cho make it possible to break the silence and build a safer campus culture for everyone.

If you haven't seen it yet, The Clothesline Project will be displayed throughout the entire month of October inside the Branson Library Atrium. We encourage every student, faculty member, and community neighbor to walk through, read the stories, and stand in solidarity with survivors.

We are still carrying the warmth and beauty of our Deming Candlelight Vigil in our hearts! Here are a few more special photos captured throughout the evening.

Every candle lit, every shared smile, and every brave voice reminded us of the strength that exists right here in Luna County. Thank you again to everyone who stood with us, shared space with us, and helped us honor domestic violence survivors and those we have lost.

Our annual "From Surviving to Soaring" Candlelight Vigil in Deming was truly a lovely, moving evening filled with hope, remembrance, and community connection.

Gatherings like this are only possible through the dedication of incredible volunteers, hardworking staff, and generous community partners who pour their hearts into making these moments meaningful. We want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who showed up to stand in solidarity with local families, and especially to the brave survivors who spoke out and shared their stories.

A special thank you goes out to Cavco - Manufactured Home Builders for creating such a lovely silhouette cutout for our event.

We also want to share immense gratitude with J&I Balloon Decorator! Thank you for consistently helping us make our events so beautiful, both at this year’s vigil and throughout all the years and events we have shared together
