Meet Rachel Ordway!
🫎 MOOSE OF THE WEEK🫎
This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Rachel Ordway, kitchen manager at our Lodge! Rachel brings a wealth of culinary experience, a love of baking, and a genuine appreciation for the Moose and our community.
Rachel was born in Petaluma, California, but she’s a Delton girl at heart! Her family moved to Delton when she was just six years old. Her mother, Kelly Ordway, raised Rachel and her 10 siblings here in Delton. Rachel describes her mom as an incredible woman and one of her best friends. And as Rachel puts it, “It sometimes feels like everyone knows my mom, and if they don’t, they should!”
Rachel and her boyfriend of three years, Eric, live in Hickory Corners with their beloved dog, Mia, a Golden Retriever/Husky mix who Rachel insists is “the best girl ever!”
👩🍳 From Delton to Culinary School and Back!
Rachel’s career in food began at just 14 years old, working at Banfield Store. She later worked at Sajo’s Pizza before heading back to California at 18 to attend culinary school, specializing in baking and pastry.
Since then, she’s done just about everything in the restaurant business! She’s been a hostess, server, bartender, line cook, sous chef, and executive chef.
But one of her favorite jobs was at a little bagel shop in Healdsburg, California, where she boiled, dressed, and baked fresh bagels. And one of the best perks? She got to take home the ugly ones! 😁
🎶 Rocks, Recipes, and a Little History
When it comes to music, Rachel isn’t picky. If she can sing along, she’s happy!
Rachel also has some wonderfully interesting hobbies. She loves collecting pretty or unusual rocks, then cleaning and polishing her discoveries.
And, of course, she loves to bake! Cheesecakes, cookies, and banana bread are among her favorites.
Here’s something you might not expect: Rachel and Eric enjoy walking through old cemeteries with Mia. She’s especially fascinated by the oldest sections, reading the names and remembering the people who helped build the communities around us. What a wonderful appreciation for local history!
🍲 A Foodie’s Bucket List
It’s probably no surprise that most of Rachel’s bucket list revolves around FOOD!
One of her dreams is to visit New Orleans and sample every Cajun and Creole dish she can get her hands on. Sounds like a pretty delicious vacation!
She also hopes to write a novel someday. With her experiences and imagination, we bet she’d have some great stories to tell!
❤️ What Rachel Loves About the Moose
Rachel says she loves how the Delton Moose gives back to and supports the community.
But what has meant the most to her personally is the warm welcome she’s received since joining our kitchen team.
She appreciates how encouraging and supportive everyone has been as she settles into her new position.
And when asked about her favorite lodge food? She loves all the homemade soups that members bring in!
