Unfortunate update from team sam’s story:
Along with many other teams and participants, we have had to make the devastating decision to head back to Florida and call our participation in the event after extensive discussions with our team, captain, and the event’s safety team who is in coordination with the national weather service.
This began with a shocking twist of anticipated weather events last night that were not in radar prior, only under an hour from our anticipated launch. It was the right call thanks to the diligent staff on safety at the event, as the storms were pretty extensive and would have not been good to have been caught in. The forecast is not anticipated to improve and it would simply be unsafe for us to stay any longer given our vessel size and resources. These are the risks and challenges associated with events that rely on sea condition and weather cooperation and are always a possibility. This was one of the hardest decisions we have had to make.
Thank you everyone for your continued support during this challenging time for our team/event staff & participants who have put ample time, resources, training, and a whole lot of heart into preparations for this event. The donations and awareness we all have raised have not been for nothing and this is also fuel for our desire to come back and push ourselves even more next year on some unfinished buisness.
You all helped us raise almost $20,000 which will directly impact cf families and patients to obtain better care and better quality of life. That is exceptional.
With heavy but grateful hearts, Team Sam’s Story - Veronica Holly Mike Townie & Andy (and Captian Jeff)
