Happy Tuesday Kingdom Kids Families and Volunteers,

What Bible stories have impacted you the most?

This week's lesson is one of those for me. It's so powerful and poignant, and provides an opportunity for parents and guardians to enter in and discuss the lesson with their children. You can see below some resources to help you with that.

Friendly reminder: During the summer our June and August programming runs as usual. July is a little different with no Kingdom Kids on July 5, and no 1st-3rd class on July 12, 19, and 26.

We love you and look forward to seeing you Sunday!

Love you all!

Jon

What Are We Learning This Sunday?

Jesus and the Samaritan Woman (John 4)

Dear families,

Jesus’ encounter with the woman at the well reveals the omniscience of Christ and His kindness toward sinners. Just as Jesus pointed out the woman’s sin, so, too, does the Holy Spirit reveal our sin to us today. The same kindness Jesus showed to the Samaritan woman is extended to those who trust in Him today.

Jesus chose to travel through Samaria on His route to Galilee. Jesus knew His time to suffer and die for sinners had not yet come and sought to avoid unnecessary confrontation with the Jews. Though most Jews avoided this path through Samaria, Jesus knew there were people in this region who needed forgiveness from sin.

Clashing against social norms of the day, such as a Jew addressing a Samaritan, Jesus asked the woman for water. He explained that if she knew the gift of God and recognized who He was, she would ask for and receive His gift of living water. Jesus said the water from the physical well in front of them wouldn’t be able to truly satisfy the thirsty, but those who drink His living water would never be thirsty again.

The woman wanted this living water. She wanted to never thirst again, and she desired to avoid constant trips to the well. Jesus’ words had piqued her curiosity. But Jesus knew she had an greater need than she realized: forgiveness of sin.

Jesus knew the sins of the woman and, by declaring Himself the Messiah, invited her to embrace Him as Savior. The glory of Jesus impacted the woman and led her to proclaim His power to the townspeople that day and invite others to consider if He was indeed the promised Messiah.

Pray that the Lord will reveal His power to the children in your care. Thank Him for the kindness and mercy He shows while we are still sinners and for His willingness to bring us into His family by faith.

FAMILY TALKING POINTS
STORY POINT
This is the main point to emphasize from today’s Bible story. Preschool : Jesus told the Samaritan woman that He is God's Son. Kids : Jesus told the Samaritan woman that He is the Messiah. CHRIST CONNECTION
This is the big idea of how this week’s Bible story points to Jesus. Babies & Toddlers: When people trust in Jesus, they have life with God forever. Younger Preschool : Jesus offered the woman living water, which is the Holy Spirit. When we trust in Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit, we have life with God forever. Older Preschool: Jesus offered the woman something no one else could give her: living water. Jesus wasn’t talking about water to drink, but about the Holy Spirit. Jesus gives the Holy Spirit to those who trust in Him. Kids: Jesus pointed out the Samaritan woman’s sin so that she could believe He is the Messiah. The Holy Spirit shows us our sin so that we might turn away from it and turn to Jesus to be saved. Anyone who trusts in Jesus receives the Holy Spirit and eternal life. BIG PICTURE QUESTION & ANSWER
This is an important biblical truth that your child will encounter each week of this unit. Younger Preschool: Did Jesus ever sin? No, Jesus never sinned. Older Preschool: Did Jesus ever sin? No, Jesus never sinned. Kids: Did Jesus ever sin? No, Jesus never sinned. KEY PASSAGE
This is a Bible verse that relates to what your child will encounter each week of this unit. Babies & Toddlers: Jesus came to take away sin; there is no sin in him. 1 John 3:5 Younger Preschool: He was revealed to take away sins, and there is no sin in him. 1 John 3:5 Older Preschool: He was revealed so that he might take away sins, and there is no sin in him. 1 John 3:5 Kids: You know that he was revealed so that he might take away sins, and there is no sin in him. 1 John 3:5 ** Next week: Jesus’ Second Miracle (John 4)

Volunteer Opportunities

As we have been sharing, Suzanne Thabet has served so faithfully as our Interim Kingdom Kids Director since July 2023. It's been a running “joke” around the office that Suzanne is our “eternal interim,” now over three years!
Suzanne is trimming her responsibilities to best utilize her passion, gifting and availability. While she will continue to help craft lesson plans and learning activities that foster a fun atmosphere and creative learning environment, we are seeking volunteer assistance with some other key aspects of her role.

Specifically, this includes two areas: 1) Preparation of classroom carts. Each week carts are prepared for the following Sunday and stocked in line with the lesson. 2) Special event planning and oversight. This includes things like the Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas Party, Splash Days, etc. If you are interested in either of these and would like more information, connect with Jon Hix .

Please continue in prayer for the Avenue Church Elders as we search for the right leadership to oversee Kingdom Kids. This ministry is so vital to our church, so dear to Christ’s heart, and so essential in making disciples.

The Latest at Kingdom Kids, June 2, 2026

Happy Tuesday Kingdom Kids Families and Volunteers,

It's June! What?! So hard to believe . . .

But here we are. Summer is upon us. It's hotter (a little). And the scramble for keeping our children meaningful occupied begins:)

We hope you have some fun vacation time planned. And we hope to see you Sundays at Kingdom Kids. Our June and August programming runs as usual. July is a little different: no Kingdom Kids on July 5, and no K-3rd class on July 12, 19, and 26.

We love you and look forward to seeing you Sunday!

Love you all!

What Are We Learning This Sunday?

John Pointed to Jesus (John 3)

Dear families,

We see the humility of John the Baptist in John chapter 3 as he led more people to follow Jesus. We also learn that Jesus’ gift of eternal life is ours for the taking when received by faith.

In this passage, we read that both John and Jesus were ministering and baptizing people in the same area of Judea. Suddenly, an argument arose among some of John’s disciples and others. They took their dispute to John, saying, “Rabbi, the one you testified about, and who was with you across the Jordan, is baptizing—and everyone is going to him.”

John, however, wasn’t jealous, nor was he worried about those who listened to him one day and went to follow Jesus the next. John knew who Jesus really is and how worthy He is to be followed. John reminded the people of the words he had already spoken: “I am not the Messiah, but I’ve been sent ahead of him.”

John viewed himself like a friend of the groom at a wedding. It was his duty to stand by, listen for Him, and rejoice greatly at His words. John’s joy was made complete by the ministry of Jesus as Messiah. John spoke with humility: “He must increase, but I must decrease.”

The beauty of the gospel is that God cast His wrath upon His own Son and granted His righteousness to believers, so that all who trust in Him will receive salvation. Jesus took our sin upon Himself so that we may live forever in right relation to God. John understood Jesus was the promised Messiah, and he lived to declare Christ’s truths.

As you talk about this session with your kids, pray that God would soften their hearts to see that Christ is the only One worth following, the only One with the power to forgive and save. Ask the Lord to show them His offer of everlasting life and His worthiness as the object of our faith.

Check out The Gospel Project At Home for resources designed to help you lead a family worship experience as well as suggestions for morning and evening prayer times and family activities.

Happy Tuesday Kingdom Kids Families and Volunteers,

I hope you had a meaningful Memorial Day weekend.

How are your kids doing with school these days? Our daughters seem ready to be finished:) Mornings are increasingly difficult, and certainly require more patience from Allie and me (which means we need more help from our Father). Aren't you glad our Father is patient with us!?

This Sunday's lesson is a beautiful reminder of that--our children will be learning about Jesus' interaction with Nicodemus. You can read about that below.

Next fun event is for Crossroads (our 4th-6th graders). They have a pool party on June 6 at 4 pm at the home of James and Jennifer Chong. RSVP here.

We look forward to seeing you Sunday!

Love you all!

Jon

What Are We Learning This Sunday?

Jesus and Nicodemus (John 3)

Dear families,

Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus reveals the Lord’s patience and kindness toward us as we earnestly seek Him. Though Nicodemus had heard Christ’s teachings, he had not yet placed faith in the true Ruler and King of the Jews. But here in this chapter, he would learn what it means to be born again.

Nicodemus was curious about Jesus and ventured to see Him under the cover of night. He called Him “Teacher” and declared that only someone who knew God could perform such miracles. Jesus knew the internal struggles of Nicodemus and spoke to his curiosity: “Truly I tell you, unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Jesus' words debunked some Jews’ belief that God’s salvation was their birthright as His people. Jesus likewise declared salvation for all who would place their trust in Him—Jews and Gentiles (non-Jews) alike.

When Jesus answered Nicodemus’ questions, He compared Himself to the bronze snake lifted up in Numbers 21. Just as the Israelites had to look to the snake while trusting in God's salvation, so, too, are we called to look to Christ’s work on the cross by faith. Nicodemus no doubt recognized this Old Testament reference; however, he had no way of knowing that Jesus would soon be lifted up on the cross as a sacrifice for his own sin.

In John 3:16, the gospel is proclaimed in a single verse: “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” Jesus declared God’s love for all of humanity, an invitation for anyone to trust in Him by faith. God didn’t send His Son to condemn the world, but to save it (John 3:17)!

Pray that the words of John 3:16 will take on fresh meaning in the lives and hearts of the boys and girls in your care. May they realize that salvation is possible by faith alone and that they, too, may be born again into the kingdom of God!

What Are We Learning This Sunday?

Jesus at Passover (John 2)

Dear families,

Jesus’ cleaning of the temple reveals His holiness as the Messiah and His willingness to take on our sin so that we, too, may be cleansed. In this passage, Jesus demonstrated His desire to honor His Father and do His will—a foretaste of the lengths He would go to cleanse us of our sin when we trust Him by faith.

Jesus confronted the immorality taking place in His Father’s house; however, He was not reacting rashly. Scripture tells us He took time to fashion a whip out of cords. Imagine Jesus weaving each cord while He pondered the holiness of His Father in heaven. Christ displayed His authority as the Son of God as He fulfilled the Passover tradition of cleansing one’s home of leaven.

God’s temple was to be a place of worship and prayer, not a marketplace for people to turn a profit. As the disciples witnessed the scene unfolding before them, they recalled the words of Psalm 69:9, that zeal for the house of God would consume the Messiah. They watched Him cast off the sinful social norms of their day as He fulfilled the will of the everlasting Father.

When the Jews questioned Jesus’ authority in the temple, He responded with these prophetic words: “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it up in three days.” They failed, however, to realize that He wasn’t speaking about the structure in which they stood; rather, He declared that though His body would soon be destroyed on the cross, He would rise again after three days’ time.

Pray that the children you teach will recognize the holiness of God and the willingness of His Son to take on the punishment we deserve for our sins. Lead them to see that Christ has already borne our shame on the cross and completed the work needed to secure our salvation. May they turn to Him to be cleansed of their sin.

Older Preschool: Jesus cleansed the temple. He also came to cleanse people from sin by dying on the cross and rising again on the third day. When people trust in Jesus, God cleanses them of their sins, and they will worship Him forever. Kids: Jesus showed His desire to honor God by cleansing the temple of sinful practices. All sin offends God's glory and will be punished. Jesus took the punishment our sin deserves so that anyone who trusts in Him will be cleansed of sin. BIG PICTURE QUESTION & ANSWER

What Are We Learning This Sunday?

Jesus’ First Miracle (John 2)

Dear families,

Jesus first miracle at the wedding in Cana reveals His power as the Messiah and His glory as the one and only Son of God. Jesus continued to draw people to Himself as He stepped into His public ministry, though He continued to move only in accordance with the will of His Father in heaven.

The wedding in Cana served as the backdrop to Jesus’ first miraculous act as Messiah. At this celebration, He met a need that was far greater than providing mere beverages to thirsty guests; rather, He selectively revealed His glory to those who were aware a miracle had taken place. When Jesus asked His mother, “What has this concern of yours to do with me, woman?”, He revealed that, even though Jesus is worthy of all praise, it was not the right time for Him to be publicly fully glorified and worshiped. Jesus was submissive to His Father’s timing in all things.

Jesus transformed pure, basic water into the most spectacular wine of the night. This was even greater feat than Moses sweetening the Israelites’ bitter water in Exodus 15. Christ demonstrated to onlookers that He is greater than even the mightiest prophets of the Old Testament. Jesus revealed His glory as the one and only Son of God, the One worthy of faith.

Even greater than the miracle of turning water into wine, Jesus has the power to turn sinners into saints (believers), just as He led the disciples to believe in Him by faith (verse 11). This week, help the kids in your care to see that Jesus has the power to bring us into a right relationship with the Father and mold us into His image as we continue to trust and obey.

Check out The Gospel Project At Home for resources designed to help you lead a family worship experience as well as suggestions for morning and evening prayer times and family activities.

Older Preschool: By turning water into special grape juice, Jesus showed His glory. Jesus is God’s Son who came to do God’s plan. Jesus’ disciples saw the miracle and believed in Him. Jesus calls us to believe in Him too. Kids: Jesus changed water into wine, revealing His glory and showing that He is God. Like the disciples, we can believe in Jesus.
